Applebee's Restaurant Review - Ever Tasted Deep-Fried Dirt?

Restaurant: Applebee's

My headline  says it all. Have you ever tasted deep-fried dirt? Then you know what the food at this location tastes like (1360 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11216). Now, we all know that fast food is not good for you, but Applebee's makes SURE that you know it's not good for you. I ordered take-out pasta alfredo and the crumblings on top were SUPPOSED to be bread crumblings but they tasted like deep-fried dirt. It was horrible. Ruined the ENTIRE meal. How could a fast food restaurent so BLATANTLY not care about the taste of their food?

What did you think of this review?

I have been in Applebee's exactly once and was totally underwhelmed. That was more than 10 years ago and I have never had a desire to go back and probably never will.

Couldn't agree more! Your title has me laughing out loud! The last time I went there with a friend, they ended up getting sick later that night. Must have been the bread crumbs:)

LOL! Must have been.

I agree that Applebee's isn't the highest quality food, but there are things that are generally good, such as their baby-back ribs. I live practically in the middle of nowhere, so there are few restaurant options. Other than Hometown Buffet and Marie Calendar's, Applebee's the only other "chain" restaurant. There are some nice local places, though.

I've never tried that pasta dish, but I did enjoy their new vegetarian pizza (served as an appetizer). I would rate the joint low, but not as low as you did. Overall, the place has much to learn about consistency when it comes to food.

I agree. Overall, I would say that 3/5 of their menu is cooked/tastes poorly. Some things are edible there - such as their salads and some appetizers. But I wouldn't take the chance overall and I would just avoid them altogether. Especially the locations in New York where you get the worst of the worst and the best of the best in the food industry. It really comes down to the staff. I live in an inner city neighborhood where most people hold every little regard for one another, and that attitude inevitably trickles down to the employees at the Applebee's restaurant.

Your words are too true. You are so lucky to live in New York! There must be some amazing choices for restaurants. Why settle for Applebees? lol

LOL! Yes, seriously.

I've never been to an Applebee's before, nor do I really care to try now, especially after reading your review.  Were the bread crumbs the only thing that you didn't like about it?  I'd love to hear more!  Thanks for sharing, Lindsay!

Oh, in New York, there are Applebee's restaurents all over. The pasta alfredo itself tasted very bland. Ever opened the refrigerator and KNEW that the milk was bad but you were scared to taste it and find out? That's how I felt after taking one bite.

Don't hold back. Tell us what you REALLY thought of it! LOL.

A tasty menu but the Applebee's I've been to had a long wait and chlorine flavored water. I've only been to the one a couple of times, maybe it was just mine.

A friend and I went here for lunch one day for a "girls day out."  It was the first time I'd been there so I wasn't sure what to order.  I went ahead and ordered he Chicken Penne.  And it was fabulous!   The ticket came to just over $10 a person so it's pretty cheap to eat there.  This is now my favorite restaurant in town! I love the staff, always so friendly and helpful. And their food is really nice. Service was quick and the waitress even stopped for some …

In general and if they're an option local places do it better then Applebees. This goes for all the chain eateries. As a former employee (cook) of both chains (Applebees) and local spots, small businesses seem to put more 'love' into their food.

Pros: Braille menus; numerous selections; relatively inexpensive, considering quality; tasty entrees; service; curbside delivery.     Cons: Ambiance; some entrees and sides are of inferior quality.     The Bottom Line: Four words: Three-Cheese Chicken Penne. Need I expound on such delights?     THE FIVE MAJOR FOOD GROUPS      These consist of cheese, garlic, pasta, crunchy bread, and more cheese. Particularly when I …

Pros: Good service.     Cons: Sub-par food.     The Bottom Line: We are very displeased with Applebee’s. The atmosphere is agreeable, the service is always good, but the food is sub-par.     Ah Saturdays, made for rest and relaxation, for sleeping late and watching all of those TiVo’ed programs you recorded during the week and now have the change to watch. Yeah Right! Saturday’s are really for running all of those errands you were …

Pros: good prices and quick service     Cons: b-r-r-r-r-r     The Bottom Line: What is it? "Eating good in the neighborhood"? Sounds about right.        I’ve decided I have become proficient at making bad choices. Perhaps it is because when Surg & I decide to finally go out to eat somewhere we suddenly become stealth. As invisible diners, we seldom are shown a table, we never converse with a waitress, we never get served – but …

Pros: Versatile; Fun atmosphere; Great food     Cons: Sometimes the food is a little cold     I had never heard of Applebees until about two years ago while performing at the Airport Playhouse in Bohemia, New York. After the first performance, everyone started singing the Applebees jingle, "You belong at Applebees!" When I asked what it was from, you could have heard a pin drop in the dressing room. I was simply told it was a tradition, and I had …

Pros: Delicious food and good service     Cons: Limited menu, need menu for children     We have eaten at our local Applebee's Restaurant several times. Today we took our daughter, Jessica and our granddaughter, Brooklyn Jean there for dinner. The atmosphere is always friendly and the restaurant is clean. The bathroom has accommodations for babies and the handicap individuals.      Whenever I go there, I tend to order the same thing. So …

Pros: Fifty types of chicken!     Cons: Bland, wretched cuisine designed to hasten the downfall of Western civ.     Oddly, the Applebee's web site offers more damnation of its restaurants than I ever could. From a section touting its children's menu:      This is your restaurant. No brussels sprouts or lima beans. We don't even try to sell liver. Kids love the yummy food on their own special menu at Applebee's. Your tummy will love it, …
