Pros: Covers mistakes made on paper with a smooth white surface.
Cons: Will show on colored paper.
The Bottom Line: This is a nice office product to use to cover mistakes made on white paper. Easy to store.
I much prefer to use a pen over a pencil as it is easier to read and it simply looks nicer. The problem with doing this is when you make a mistake using a pen. Although there are erasable pens, they really don't work all that well. When white out first came out, it was a white liquid that you used to brush a white paint like substance over the mistake. Once it was dry, you could simply write over the painted section. There have been many improvements in the writing error correction industry and one of my favorites was the invention of the BIC Corporation Wite Out Brand White Line Correction Tape. This office supply is a handy tool for work or a personal desk.
The BIC Corporation Wite Out Brand White Line Correction Tape is specially designed so it will fit comfortably in the hands of most adults. It has a rounded triangular shape that had a contoured shape for easier use. It is made of a hard blue plastic that is translucent in order to determine how much correction tape is left. At the tip of the tape holder there is an opening in which the correction paper is exposed and ready for use. The correction tape measures approximate 3" x 2" (at its highest peak) and is only about a half inch thick. This compact size makes it easy to fit in just about any desk.
Using the BIC Corporation Wite Out Brand White Line Correction Tape is very simple. When there is a mistake on a piece of paper that needs to be covered, simply push the tip of the correction tape down with minimal force and run it along the full length of the error. When you push back along the paper, the internal tape is pulled in which the correction material is housed. This correction material is white in coloring and fits smoothly over the paper. The portion of the tape that has had the correction material removed moves back into the dispenser case as it is on a continuous role. Once you have covered the entire area that you want, simply pull the correction tape off of the paper. The height of the correction tape area covers 1/6" and may take a few rounds to cover the full error especially if it is over a large area. The entire length of the correction tape is 400". Overall, this is a very simple item to use.
The results of the BIC Corporation Wite Out Brand White Line Correction Tape far exceed the prior use of the white paint material. The nicest quality is the fact that there is no drying period for the correction tape. Once it is on the paper, it is ready to be written on again immediately and you don't have to worry about smearing it. Even though it lies flat, it is able to completely hide the mark although a marker may require an additional coat. Another nice quality of this product is that there is no smell as compared to the correction fluid. Correction fluid is a product known to be dangerous if inhaled for long periods of time. As it goes on smooth and flat there is no brush strokes or crumbles of dried material left behind. If a piece of paper is Xeroxed, there is no shadow left behind.
As long as sufficient pressure it placed on the tip and a smooth motion is used when covering the error, you will not have any problems with the correction tape creasing. If you find you do have a crease or an uneven surface, a few rubs with a fingertip makes this go away. All in all, it is very difficult to mess up while using this correction tape.
The only thing I would like to see is an option for different colors. I typically use white paper but it would be nice to have a match on colored paper. As there are so many different shades of color paper, it would be impossible to find a good match and would gripe if it didn't. I understand why BIC has not made an attempt to create such a product.
No desk is ready to go without the BIC Corporation Wite Out Brand White Line Correction Tape. These can be purchased singularly for $3-4 or in mass quantities. This correction tape will last for quite awhile but will be dependent on the amount of use.
