Cons: STICKY. Also, other food groups are required
During the fall of 1997, I worked at the mall as I was finishing my first undergraduate degree. I noticed that when I worked in the mornings that there was a most enticing smell that wafted my way mixed with the strains of "mall music."
I am a habitual coffee drinker, a coffee snob in fact, and on my way to the coffee shop to get my "fix" I was able to determine the direction of the lovely tempting smell. CINNABON I see on the sign and I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what goes on in there. Not wanting to indulge any new vices I reluctantly went back to my shop, monsooned malabar coffee in hand....
The next morning that I worked, that siren odor once again assaulted me. I could no longer bear it. I patted down my usually slim pockets and determined that I probably had sufficient funds to do some damage to my waistline. I walked up to the counter which I found to be clean and orderly. I regarded the neat little tables with happy smiling patrons chatting as they shoveled in what appeared to be massive pastry products. A voice said, "I'll be right with you," and I could see an aproned figure carrying a large bowl of some creamy white substance.
The aproned figured turned out to be a very old friend I'd lost touch with some years before. He seemed very happy to see me and offered to "buy" me a Cinnabon to celebrate the reunion. I admitted I'd never had one. "Oh," he said, well, let me put some extra topping on there for you. I was soon served with fresh hot coffee (quite good in fact) and a soft, warm delectable confection that I'd never known the like of before.
I was hooked. I became a morning regular at Cinnabon, foregoing my exotic coffees for the fresh hot "regular" brew and the warm tasty bun. I mostly would buy one big Cinnabon, but occasionally would indulge myself with the minnibons. When I graduated and got a "real" job, my one regret was that there was no Cinnabon at our school cafeteria. I have missed that indulgence, and on weekends will occasionally get to the mall before the stores open, when the Cinnabons are coming fresh out of the oven.
This is a marvelous chain. I've never seen it anywhere but in malls, but I'd love to find one on the corner near my home someday.
