Corning Ware. 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish (Foil W/O)
Jul 20, 2002
Pros: Dishwasher safe on the top rack
Cons: I only bought one!
The Bottom Line: This is easy to move from freezer to microwave with the cover in place
Every few months the grocery store has a new product for sale whereby as the weeks progress new pieces are sold with the initial first piece being the cheapest of the bunch. This is like enticing me to continue with the purchases but my pocketbook has other plans. Most of the time these products are cookware, glassware or books for children. You can easily tell which shopping trips my children came along when you see we have books out of the order they were issued.
I truly had high hopes of starting my own collection of Corning Ware® products but I could not keep up with the weekly changes to the offerings and these deals come and go too quickly for me to keep tabs on them. I lucked out with the first purchase being the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish along with the plastic cover. My line of thinking saw this as two pieces for the introductory price of a few dollars at the time. The cover helps keep the food fresher longer and is very convenient.
I like the fact that I can store my Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish in either the freezer of refrigerator. The lid stays secure and with a snap on either side is fastened until removed. The product number is F-15-PC and made in the U.S.A. This can also be used in conventional ovens as long as the cover is removed prior to placing on a rack. Since I do not use my oven for about half of the year due to poor ventilation and the lack of air conditioning I have never used the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish in the oven or the broiler for that matter. I also have the plastic containers with lids by Ziploc that I use mostly to store left over pizza.
My seven-year old son at the moment will only eat the vegetable corn so I make plenty of this for him. While I also like corn I prefer spinach, carrots or green beans to add to my weekly menus. One of the brands on the market sells smaller sized cans of vegetables so I get those and place the contents into the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish for microwave use so my son can eat his daily dose of corn. I have tried this with and without the cover and prefer not using the cover since it only takes seconds to heat up. I can also place my single serving helping of a previously cooked vegetable and place in microwave. My son could eat rice if you let him every day of the week and sometimes it might even seem like that. The leftovers of rice can easily fit inside the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish and can go from refrigerator to microwave and then placed on a serving dish. This would not be suitable to eat from due to the utensils scratching the surface, plus it would be hot from the microwave.
Another favorite menu item is macaroni and cheese. I tend to make a large portion of this once or twice a week and then take a serving and place it in the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish for heating up purposes. I also use this when I make stew, meatloaf and lasagna and want to have some leftovers for myself at either lunch or dinner another day. This works out very well with just the right amount. Clean up is a breeze, especially since I do not have access to a dishwasher but my own two hands. There are no chips or cracks anywhere on the oval dish. The cover is another story as it is not the same french white color and has faded and looks a bit dingy. You can even see your reflection when you tilt the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish ! As the name states this holds fifteen ounces or 475 ml in an oval dish that has ridges along the sides and it is not heavy to carry from appliances to counter.
However when using the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish as a serving dish on the table for guests or family meals, the cover would not be utilized and the dish looks fresh and clean. This would work well when serving gravy alongside mashed potatoes and turkey or even some dressing for the kids table. When the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish is not in use I keep the cover on top for storage purposes. I have a wooden fork and spoon that I use when placing contents into the dish. It is recommended to only use wooden, plastic or nylon utensils for all Corning Ware® products. Harsh cleaners should be avoided on these products as well as any items that could scratch the surface.
There is a one-year warranty on parts should there be any defects. You may be asked to return the product and should check for the nearest Corning/Revere office. In order to utilize the warranty the consumer must follow the care instructions that are with each Corning Ware® product. Another plus is the full ten-year warranty on all Corning Ware® products if they break from hot or cold temperatures within ten years of the date of purchase. You may want to write the date of purchase on your instruction pamphlet and keep attached to your receipt.
When you add the cover/lid to these products it makes them easy to transport to other locations where you can heat up the contents for dinner parties, church functions or block parties. What I do is place a mailing label with my return address of all items that I remove from my home so hopefully they will be returned. You should not try to repair any cracks or chips on the Corning Ware® and discontinue using for safety reasons.
For a small household such as mine with two children and one Adult the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish turned out to be the perfect size for one to two servings we need on a daily basis. It is versatile, easy to clean and appealing, which makes it worthy of gift giving as well. This would be suitable for the single person who has just left home or gone off to college. The cover has the information listed for reminders of where it can be used, so simple even a man can do it!
