Cons: Only certain utensils can be used with Corning Ware products
The Bottom Line: The attractive design of Corning Ware. adds appeal to the table setting
I regret not purchasing additional dishes when I came across the Corning Ware® line several years ago when the grocery store was having a display. These are always located at the back of the store and this particular time it was the aisle for pet items so I lost out on adding to my collection.
The only other item from the product line I have is the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish. I am very pleased with both pieces and use them on a daily basis. Although they are capable of going from freezer or refrigerator to oven or microwave, I tend to use mine in the refrigerator and then microwave. It is imperative that you use pot holders when removing the Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish from the microwave as well as the oven.
I got lucky when I snagged a lid for the Corning Ware® 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish, but not so with the Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish. This is the reason I tend to use one over the other, because tin foil just does not work as well. I have not tried plastic wrap but might add that to my next shopping list. I tend to utilize the Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish for the table and counter for storing side dishes and delicacies my seven-year old likes.
During the summer months I do not turn on the oven so my son is anxiously awaiting batches of blueberry muffins. I did try these in the toaster oven but it got so hot in my kitchen I nixed that idea. The mixes I use make six muffins so I would store two to three of them in the Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish while the others, minus the one he consumed, would go inside a baggie into the refrigerator.
The usual staples that my son likes are corn, rice, peaches and tater tots. I will place the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish on the table and he can scoop out his peaches onto his plate. When I make the tater tots they do not sit very long in the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish. For storing left over rice and corn I use the Corning Ware 15-ounce FRENCH WHITE Oval Dish. The specific utensils for Corning Ware® consists of wooden, plastic or nylon forks, spoons and spatulas.
Cleaning the Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish is a breeze for even us unlucky folks who do not have a dishwasher, even macaroni and cheese is able to come off without hard scrubbing. This can be placed in the top rack of a dishwasher as well. So far there are no chips or scratches and I do not perceive that happening in the future. This is light to carry and with the addition of a lid can be brought to pot-luck dinners at functions outside the home. My son has a three- piece character set and I can fit the Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish inside the bowl of that set. My son uses that bowl for cereal as I would not suggest using the Corning Wear® pieces for individual uses, but I would guess single males might be prone to do so, why waste a plate when you have the item in the dish already! But no objects or cleaners that are harsh and would scratch the dish should be used, as broken or chipped pieces should not be utilized either.
The Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish is the perfect size for single or double servings when at the table. This could be used to store fruit on the table as well for a center-piece, as well as endless possibilities. Although not very heavy I would not describe the Corning Ware®16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish as light weighted.
The FRENCH WHITE goes well with any design or color you may have on your table top and can have a ribbon adorning it for holiday festivities. With the change of seasons in the next few months it will be time to start making soups and turning on the oven again. The Corning Ware® 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish is a suitable size for my favorite French Onion Soup. While in the past I have used the brown ceramic bowls like Restaurants have for my soups, I have not been able to find any recently. Trader Joes sells frozen French Onion soup that needs to be placed in an oven proof bowl, which is where the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish comes in handy. Those ceramic bowls I could use in the toaster oven as well when I could not wait for the season to arrive, but I am not certain that would work with the Corning Ware®.
Another use for the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish is when I make stew. I only like shoe string carrots, but they seem rather strange in stew so I still put some carrots in for color and my son likes a few of them. With a few ladles of stew broth, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, beef, celery and onion I can fill the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish and set it on the table. This way I do not have to get up to fix another plate for myself and my son can pick out his veggies that he likes.
The white grooves that align the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish add to the appeal of the design and make carrying them easier as you can grip the sides. This is about two inches deep and when cleaned you can tilt the dish to see a reflection and store away until next time. The bottom of the dish states this is F-16-B 500. There is an indent in the dish about a half-inch, starting at the top. This dish reminds me of a smaller type of dish that I used with my Grandmother as a child to make chocolate pudding.
I am sure Martha Stewart could come up with a host of ideas of what to do with the Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish if you turned it over and used for a table display design of some sort. I would say this could also be used for outside settings on picnic tables when hosting picnics and parties. Sauces and garnishes could be placed inside with a plastic spoon for guests to sample. The same could be applied for jello, pudding and ice cream. Corning Ware® has a ten-year warranty where they promise to replace any bowl that breaks from hot or cold temperatures, this from the date of purchase. For defects the warranty is for one-year, as long as the terms of care were followed properly. They can be contacted at 1-800-999-3436.
The Corning Ware 16-ounce FRENCH WHITE Round Dish would make a great hostess gift, off to college addition for their room, single families as well as keeping one at work for when the need arises.
