Pros: stops that evil bacon, easy to clean

Cons: none for me

The Bottom Line:
“let people borry money they'll leave you alone
never fry bacon without a shirt on
never spray water on a hornets nest”
~Tom Wilson

I don’t think there is anything more combative to cook than bacon. It finds ways to pay you back for slapping it into a hot skillet to say nothing of the damage it does to the surrounding areas. The same applies to sauces that tend to pop and sputter their way out of the cookpot. My solution to this is my Cuisipro Splatter Guard.

I’ve had some of those inexpensive guard in the past and they quickly rust and even lose their shape or acquire holes. How, I don’t know. The Cuisipro is 18/10 stainless steel, 13” in diameter, and it covers most pans or skillets I cook with. The addition of the little feet make it nice when you remove it so the messy screen surface does not come directly in contact with your counter. Why create an additional mess when you are trying to avoid one in the first place.

I have found it is great when cooking spaghetti sauce, which I let simmer almost all day, to prevent splatters from popping out but I really enjoy it when cooking bacon. Another nice thing is the fact that you can warm up your hamburger buns on the surface of the splatter guard while frying up some burgers. I like a product that is dual purpose.

They do recommend that you hand wash this item, which is no real problem or chore. Running a soft, soapy rag over the surface and then hosing it off keeps it as nice as the day you purchased it. Avoid using steel wool type pads on the unit or harsh rubbing since this will cause it to warp or the screen to become misshaped. If I have cooked something that has a high spatter, I generally place it in a hot, soapy sink to wait until I’ve done eating the meal. Actually, I tend to clean while I’m cooking anyway to alleviate all the mess after a meal is completed.

I’ve used this product for quite some time and am completely pleased with the results. It cleans easily unless you are an impatient Nellie, and if you treat it nicely it will stop that bacon from retaliating. Storage is easy since I stand it up against the wall of the cupboard and the other pans can rest beside it. In addition, it comes with a lifetime warranty, so you know they are proud of their product.
