Pros: Location, Variety, Swanky, Fun!

Cons: Parking may be tight on weekends

The Bottom Line: Lots of fun with so much to sample and view. A real treat!

I was expecting a typical "Farmer's Market" and was pleasantly surprised at what I found! A virtual smorgasboard of world class food, atmosphere, shopping and just plain fun. This Farmer's Market is open every day of the week from 9AM until 9PM and there is always a crowd.

The market is an open air pavillion in downtown LA that patrons wander through. Super food representing the best of the world, Korean, Jewish Delis, Indian Food, Sushi, Japanese Food, Greek Food and the list goes on and on. It even has a Johnny Rockets for those who want a 50's Americana lunch.

There are outdoor eating spots where folks sit and eat or read the paper or play cards. There were many languages spoken and it was really fun just to watch the people. There were so many languages spoken that it was hard to keep up. Here is the listing of the restaurants:

Farmer's Market is the best of both worlds, old charm with nods to expanded cuisines and cultures. A real treat in every sense of the word. A must see for any trip to Los Angeles! Parking is free in two large provided that you buy something. Parking can get congested on the weekend but there is an 8 story parking lot which charges about $5 for all day. Located right next to the CBS studios it's an easy walk for a tour of the studios. The Farmers Market is a great place to spot some stars too. You really never know who you are going to run into.

Right next to the Farmers Market is "The Grove" a very nice shopping pavillion that is very well planned. There are major stores here such as the Gap, Barnes and Noble, FAO Schwartz and several upscale restaurants. Take a stroll through the Grove and you are transported to an almost theme park pavillion. Strings of lights overhead, a large Vegas Style Fountain which dances to the sounds of Frank, Dean and other seasonish music. A large trolley train runs up and down which just thrills the tourists. A large 16 movie plex theater draws consistent crowds as it shows only first run movies. The movie staff dress in old time outfits complete with hats!

So, the Farmers Market and "The Grove" pack a whallop and still is a cheap place to bring a date. It is possible to stay at the Farmers Market all day long and still not be bored.

A must see for any visitor to Los Angeles.
