This is a pretty decent camera hood for several Canon lenses - I got it primarily for use with my EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens. However, the lens hood WILL NOT work with Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens (Canon's kit lens) because it will restrict your field of view.

The hood is relatively compact and it fits easily in most camera bags. The build quality is fairly good. I've been using it for a few months now and am completely satisfied with its functionality.

About this product

Wiki

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.
