The Kindle has been the king of the ebook reader market for a couple of years now. Amazon's sheer market force is what helped the kindle succeed as much as it has. Aggressive pricing on ebooks has also helped the adoption of electronic media over physical media.
How did I like using the Kindle? I felt that the screen refreshed slowly and that the device was a bit clumsy for reading books. I must admit that I do not own a kindle, however, I have played with the devices extensively. The eInk technology is nice until you are trying to read in the dark without disturbing others. Also, color images look really bad on the display. Remember the point of this display is to make electronic reading easy on the eyes and to save battery life, not to display images or be particularly user friendly.
The selection of books on the amazon store is pretty impressive. Also, the ability to download the books wherever you are with the built-in free 3G is also amazing. Imagine sitting in an airport and browsing and downloading ebooks from the kindle store directly to your kindle. This is probably one of the most compelling features of this product.
Conclusion- buy this product only if you are willing to deal with the eInk display, otherwise get an iPad.
