This surfboard is your gateway to the internet

The Motorola Surfboard DB5101 tends to do one thing, and from what I can tell, it does it very well.  I've had this cable modem  for 5 years using Comcast -> Time Warner Internet and it has done it's job dutifully.  I now get 10mb down and 1mb up from my cable provider and this modem seems to handle it like a champ.   I keep this router in the back of a closet with a bunch of other running electronics, and I think it is susceptible to overheating, but this only happens very rarely and usually at very extreme temperatures.  I've also noticed that occasionally if I'm streaming video from my slingbox at home to a remote device that I will lose all internet connectivity after an extended period of time.  However, after rebooting the router, service is restored, which makes me believe that this is more of an issue with Time Warner than with the cable modem.

My only complaint with the Motorola Surfboard was due to a feature which I didn't know existed.  The entire top of the device is a "Standby" button which essentially disables the internet connection.  I had inadvertantly hit this button and couldn't understand why the internet had stopped working.  If the button had been slightly more obvious, I might have realized what I had done, but beyond this minor annoyance, the Motorola Surfboard is a great way to catch the Internet Wave (yes... that was lame).
