I blog quite a bit and am always taking photos of things for my blogs - cards, books, knitting projects, quilts, paintings - well, you get the general idea I take a lot of photos that I use on line. I also live an area when sunshine is a premium - especially from November through May - and sometimes later - so taking things outdoors for some good light is not a decent option a lot of the time.
I have a more professional lighting set up for taking photos of large quilts. It works well but is more cumbersome and is not something that you can easily take out when you decide ,on the the spur of the moment, that you want to take a photo of your latest project for your blog. I have also tried those white photos cubes - I used it with the lights from the larger set up. The results were okay but I was not , I have to admit thrilled and, once again, lugging the large lights out was time consuming. Time for me is always at a premium - as I think it is for most of us these days.
I was delighted when I found that I would be able to try out "My Studio PS5 PortaStudio Portable Photo Studio with 5000K Continuous Lighting for Product Photography". It arrived in a long square box and I decided that I would put it away until the weekend cam around so that I could assemble it with a rested mind. Yesterday was the day! I opened the box and took put the separately wrapped items. I generally break a slight sweat when I get a bag of nuts and screws - some how I always manage to end up with less than needed and always wonder where I went wrong. I spent about 5 minutes looking at the simple directions - which is a first since I seldom bother to look at direction before I HAVE to - I mean when I run into a problem and have to look to see what I did wrong. The direction are presented in written format on one page while the photos that go along with the instructions are on another. I prefer to have a photo and the written directions together - but then again I really do better with visual directions in general. I decided to just look at the photos and see if I could assemble the Studio just by looking at them. Eureka! It worked - and the best part is that there were no left over nuts or screws! The whole process took about a half of an hour.
I had some cards that I had been waiting to photograph - so I used the new studio set up right away. It provided wonderful even color and worked even though I the cards I was photographing had metal on the and I thought that the glare would be difficult to overcome. The provided background is white and it provided me with a nice flat white surface that lighted evenly and produced MUCH better photos that I could have achieved without the Studio at hand. The structure is made from a decent quality plastic which allows for it to be lightweight and very easy to move about. It's simple but very efficient and the resultant photographs are excellent. The company advises that they will be offering a variety of backgrounds in the near future.
I think this is an excellent product with an excellent price point - especially compared to it's nearest competitors. I am very well pleased with it in every way

The new MyStudio PS5 PortaStudio is the first truly portable photo studio from the makers of the extremely popular and award winning MS20 and MS32 professional tabletop photo studios. Unlike other portable systems that fold, collapse and/or have seams that have to be edited out later, the PS5 PortaStudio features a 24” x 60” flexible single piece white background that wraps around the product from top to bottom. This provides a high quality, seamless infinity background without compromising shooting angles. The lighting system included with the PS5 features continuous 5000K “daylight” fluorescent lighting which provides soft, accurate light and is the preferred lighting method for product photography by professional photographers. This is different from other systems that simply include standard lights which must be positioned individually and are not color-corrected. The new PS5 is also priced very competitively with the less professional tabletop systems yet provides superior results. MyStudio is the absolute best all-in-one lighting and background solution for product photography, eBay auction photography and any other small item photography. Just place your product inside the studio, turn on the light and snap your picture with any standard digital camera. No flash or prior photographic experience is required.
