Napoleon Perdis Long Black Mascara makes my lashes super long and double black!
Sep 27, 2010
Pros: Adds lots of length, volume, and drama, doesn't flake or clump, stays put
Cons: Pricey, doesn't really curl lashes, lashes can get spidery after a few coats
The Bottom Line: Napoleon Perdis Long Black Mascara - Double Black makes my lashes very long and adds volume and drama. It doesn't clump or flake. Pricey but worth it.
I seem to collect mascara. Although I have many different brands from drugstore to high end, I keep on buying more looking for the perfect one. I have been using Napoleon Perdis Long Black Mascara - Double Black for months and I really like it. I was able to get it for a great price but will buy it again for full price if need be.
About the Product
Embrace your inner screen siren with the ultimate pick-me-up. This innovative formula delivers lash-loving conditioning, thanks to allantoin, candelilla wax and beeswax. A double shot of black pigment sets the stage for intense dramatic eyes. Bent wand applicator acts as a built-in lash curler and gives good contour and control over unruly lashes. Beeswax - Allowing the mascara to be layered multiple times without clumping. Candelilla Wax - Keeps the lashes protected and nourished. Angled Wond - Allows you to coat every lash, from root to tip with ease.
This mascara comes in a standard white mascara tube. By standard, I mean it is simple with no special bling to make it stand out except, I suppose, that the tube is all white with black writing. The brush is fairly thin and is bent at an angle. The only thing that stands out about the brush is the bend in the wand angling it. Otherwise, it is a thin, black one that looks to be very standard. But it isn't at all!
This mascara comes in either Double Black or Chocolate Brown. I chose Double Black because I always wear the darkest colored mascara I can find. I am brunette with black lashes so I want to make them even darker. My lashes are also very straight and need volume. I like long, lush lashes that are dramatic. Many mascaras fail to give me the type of length and volume I want even if they are decent in every other way.
Napoleon Perdis Long Black Mascara applies easily and with no clumps. The angled brush lifts my lashes but doesn't really curl them. However, from the first coat, I get amazing length and volume and super dark lashes. I can build the intensity of the mascara by applying extra coats which I do at night. During the day, I only apply one coat because it is really dramatic.
This mascara has never clumped on my lashes nor has it ever flaked. My lashes look amazingly long and full. I get a lot of volume and a ton of length. I get even more when I use this brand's excellent lash primer called Peep Show Mascara - Madame Prep. Together I get insanely dramatic lashes that don't clump or flake at all.
Alone, on bare lashes, this mascara still does a great job. It lifts, lengthens, adds volumes, and makes my lashes very dark black. Throughout the day and night, it stays put and doesn't flake. When I am ready to remove the mascara, I use my usual cleanser or a makeup remover towelette like Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes. I don't need specific eye makeup remover pads to remove this mascara but they work too.
My lashes don't get brittle nor do they end up on my washcloth when I remove the mascara.
I wear contact lenses at times and have never had any issues with irritation or with little specks floating into my eyes and attaching themselves on my contacts like some mascaras I have used.
The only thing I have noticed is that my lashes can get a bit spidery if I use too many coats of Long Black Mascara. They start to look like I am wearing a Daddy Long Legs spider on my eyes. For that reason, I never apply more than three coats and usually stop at two. I really don't need more anyway.
My tube of Napoleon Perdis Long Black Mascara - Double Black has lasted several months and I do wear it fairly often although certainly not daily. I have so many mascaras that I like to mix them up.
I really like this mascara and will pay the high end price for the high end look of long, full lashes.
I was able to buy this mascara from a home shopping network (QVC or HSN, I can't recall which) for only $7.00 but it sells for $22.00 all over the net. I don't know where this brand is sold offline except for Target and Sephora stores but it may be in other stores as well. $22.00 is steep and I usually only pat that price for Lancome mascaras but this one is worth the price, especially when paired with the Madam Prep Primer. Conclusion
Napoleon Perdis Long Black Mascara is an indulgence worth indulging in time and again. It performs very well, at least for me. It makes my lashes super long, adds volume, and darkens them to the deepest black I can imagine. My eyes really pop when I wear this mascara. It is pricey but I don't get clumps and I never see flaking. Once this mascara is on, it's on until I wash it off. It is not waterproof and will run if I am splashed or in a heavy downpour but otherwise, I haven't had any issues with it. I am going with 4 stars only because it doesn't really curl my lashes and it is so pricey. Also, it seems to work at least three times better paired with the even pricier primer from Napoleon Perdis. They are, though, a dynamic duo that is hard to beat!
