Impressive crash/ride

24" crash/rides are a rarity, but Paiste managed to pull it off with this model. I owned mine for about a year and sold it because the sound was not exactly what I was looking for (I am sure many drummers can relate). Although this was not my favorite cymbal it's certainly one worthy of five stars and one that many drummers will possibly find to be the perfect sound.

Things to love: it crashes well and rides even better. The crash opens very quickly and sustains for what seems to be forever. Unless you choke it with your hand the slower decay rate will have this cymbal vibrating long after you want it to stop.

The ride has multiple zones - the closer to the edge that you play it the lower the fundamental and the more over- and undertones you will get. Even towards the bell this cymbal has wash. If your music style calls for playing the bell a lot this cymbal will definitely impress you. Although it has a relatively low profile it is clear and cutting.

One thing that I noticed on my ride was a definite hum when I would play fast eight note triplet ostinatos and that is one of the reasons I decided to not keep mine. That hum is not pronounced if you have someone play it while you get in front of the kit to listen, but behind the kit it's definitely there and it was somewhat disconcerting to me.

Regardless of my personal tastes and experience, this is a versatile cymbal that is surprisingly easy to control (even with 7A sticks). The sound would fit most genres of music, but do be aware that while you can hear distinct notes there is an amount of wash. If you are seeking a dry, ping ride this is not it.
