Great first Blu Ray player

We finally jumped into the Blu Ray fray with this Samsung player. The appearance of the player is very sleek and matches well with other audio/visual components in the average family's home theater. The picture and sound compared to even a high end regular DVD player is amazing! It's also a very quiet machine compared to our other regular DVD players as well. The remote control and other interfaces are also very intiative. It also integrated nicely via Samsung's Anynet feature if you are hooking it up to a Samsung television with a HDMI cable.

That being said, you get what you pay for. This machine is obviously not on the high end of Blu Ray players out there.  The load time for Blu Ray or regular DVD discs is noticably slow. Recently, after not using the player for a couple of months, my husband popped in a DVD and there was no audio. He fixed the problem by doing a hard set on the machine. We're still not sure what caused the issue though.

Also, my husband was unsuccessful in hooking up the player to our Samsung home theater system with a HDMI cable.  The home theater has a HDMI in and out.  The audio comes through fine, but the picture comes out with distorted colors.  The home theater may be to blame though because the picture is fine if I connect directly to the TV with the same HDMI cable.

Overall, this is a great player as a first-time Blu Ray player and people who occassionally watch DVD's. If you religiously watch DVD's, you should probably spring for a higher end model as the load time would probably get annoying after awhile.
