Pros: Very durable and will never rust.

Cons: The plastic ones will work for a while but these are better.

The Bottom Line: Save your papers and your time trying something cheaper, purchase this and you will be very satisfied.

 
If you ever need a portable desk that can withstand some abuse then this is what you should buy. You can purchase these in different sizes at Office Max or Office Depot for right around fifteen to twenty dollars. I first started out using this for my business but then I found this to come in very handy for those road trips that we go on once a year to hold all of the copies of the maps that we use every year.

Description

The overall size of this portable desktop is 9” wide x 13-1/2” long x 1-1/4” deep. This is made of 40 gauge aluminum and has a clip board on the upper portion of the outside. The lid is attached by one 9” long piano hinge and opens up so that you can place a full page 8” x 11” products will fit nicely. There is also a little 9” x 1-1/2” compartment located in the lower portion of this clipboard desk that will accommodate any writing utensils that you might need.

Experience

I used to have a plastic one of these but had to replace it because it got damaged and cracked. When I first saw this on the shelf at Office Max I purchased the thinner one, not thinking that I would use it very much. As I soon found this has become very valuable to me while I am on vacation. This got me to start thinking that if I am going to go to the same place every year then I should save the maps that I print out and reuse them each year. That is when I went back to the store and purchased the larger one which holds all of the extras maps and papers that I use each year. Because this is made of metal it does take a lot more abuse and can be kicked around and I do not have to worry about cracks. This fits snugly between the seat and door, and all you have to do when you need it, is reach down and grab it. With the clip on the outside it will keep the proper paper at the ready and you will not have to open this up and go searching for your paper while you are driving. This will also protect any of your papers from any bad weather that you might run into. Unless you run into a flood then you will be sol. If you like the plastic ones they do have them in different colors, but I would think twice about it because they were always popping open on me when I had mine. Also when the sun would heat the plastic ones up they would become distorted in shape and it would not close right from then on out.

Warranty

Even though these have a one year warranty, that only covers this against workmanship and manufacturers defects. Not from the affect of the heat after being left in the car to long.

Conclusion

I have been very satisfied with the job that this has done for me over the past few years. The plastic one I have since thrown away and now it sits on the shelf if I ever need one for a light job. But this one that is a little bit deeper is more convenient and does a lot more for me. The whole entire unit has never rusted since I have had this. It very durable and it has fallen out of the car and not come open when it has hit the ground. This is definitely worth the money that I paid for it, even though it was a little bit on the expensive side, you will only need to purchase one of these.
