Fabulous Idea - But Still Needs A bit 'o' Work

I was very excited about trying this new pencil. Who could ask anything more from a pencil than smooth writing and perpetual sharpness?! Sharpie always comes out with great products and I was really hoping that this would be another winner.

I used this pencil on a variety of paper products - nothing very exotic- normal copier paper, letter paper, sketchbook etc.At times it is smooth - but many times the line in inconsistent. Adding some more pressure than I am used to using on a pencil or pen seemed to help make a smoother line but on many papers I still experienced some variations that were irritating. It's not like my trusty number 2 pencil and a sharpener put it that way.

There has been a liquid lead product out for some time called Derivan and I have considered trying it - but using in a pencil is really what I wanted to do with it and for sure I did not have the technology to make it all happen. Sharpie is on the right track here for sure - I think the line variation and slight skipping problems can be rectified in one way or another. When this product has a little more technical editing I will be first in line to order a bunch - but right now it still needs a little tweaking to flow smoothly on more paper types and produce a more consistent solid line. Come on Sharpie! I love the idea!

On a side note this stuff is amazingly erasable. It erases completely with little scrubbing plus you are provided with an extra eraser!

After attempting to write with a ballpoint pen I decided to not use them because you need to press hard on them in order to write. Unfortunately, this 'pencil' writes just like a ballpoint pen. You have to put a good amount of pressure on it if you want something close to an even 'flow' and once you do that there is no point to this being 'erasable' since the imprint will always be there due to the pressure you've used to write something in the first place. Pass on this.
