Skullcandy Pipe Ipod speakers smoke!

I purchased this Ipod travel speaker because it looked like a compact light weight way to fill a room with sound while I was on the road.  I am part of a medical team providing eyecare to developing countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean. My job (beside looking in lots of eyes) is to provide the tunes for the clinic.

I plugged this puppy in and mounted my Ipod and....wow...was I surprised. The sound was incredible. Great quality sound, plenty of volume and the battery life with 4 AAAs is great. I would highly recommend this product for camping, going to the beach, having a picnic or... just filling an eye clinic with sound.

Pros: compact, great sound, 4 AAAs or DC adaptor (included), charges Ipod when plugged in, comes with a remote control

Cons: does not charge batteries, needs to come with a case (like a sleeve or something)

I thought that Skullcandy only made headphones and earbuds, I didn't know that they also make iPod speakers.  Sounds great to travel with!  Do you happen to know how long this would run for if used solely on batteries?

I think I am getting about 8-10 hours from a set of 4 AAA cells

Wow, that's not bad at all. Thanks for getting back to me!

Would you only recommend this for a mobile lifestyle? I was considering the Cambridge playdock, but if this is cheaper, it might be worth it. By the way, it sounds like you have quite an interesting job! What do you play when you're doing medical work overseas?

I think that the Cambridge unit is in a bit of a different league. The Pipe is way more portable but less power. It would not be great for a home-type system. The Cambridge seems a bit too heavy looking to be very portable. The sound of the pipe is great - given its size and power. Hmmm...eye clinic tunes have to please everyone so my choice is pretty eclectic. Then again, it is all about the rum! Maybe I should review some rum.
