Hot, Fresh Food and OPEN when the movies let out!

Pros: Open late, pretty good food

Cons: Too pricey for the family

I LOVE Taco Cabana! Living in Texas most of my life, I live, eat and breathe Tex-Mex. I can eat it breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Don't ask what my cholesterol is!)

I first found Taco Cabana after leaving a late showing of a movie. I was starving and popcorn had not made a dent in that hunger. Realizing it was after midnight, I thought on my way to the car that our choices would be pretty limited, but I was not about to go home and cook. Pulling out of the parking lot, my husband noticed a brightly lit and colorful place just a block away. "That looks open," he says. I shrugged and figured that ANYTHING would be fine at this point. So we found Taco Cabana.

Walking up to the restaurant, I was delighted by the decor. I love the bright color scheme and almost whimsical decoration with a Tex-Mex flair. I couldn't believe it was open. We went in and were astonished by the menu choices. There certainly is your basic Tex-Mex fare, but there is a good variety of alternatives. Hungry as I was, I had trouble deciding what to have. After making my choice, I noticed that they also had cerveza iced down. That's quite a change from your typical fast-food location.

We sat and waited a short time for our number to be called. Meanwhile I looked around at the brightly lit interior and cultural decor. It's really a fun interior to look at. In just a few minutes our food was ready, piping hot, and THEN I got excited. There is a bar with a variety of salsas, from mild to very hot, and there was my very favorite-- Salsa Verde! The condiments are also fresh, onions, jalapenos, lemons and more. The food was nothing spectacular, but it was freshly prepared from good ingredients. The salsa bar is what makes the food. I had chicken enchiladas with sour cream, rice and beans, and we shared nachos that were made with different colored chips. I was astonished that we couldn't eat it all. The proportions were certainly generous.

I can't say I'm a regular at Taco Cabana, there isn't one near where I live. I've certainly had MUCH better Tex-Mex, but the food is good and the dining experience is enjoyable. Taco Cabana is a bit too pricey for me to take my whole bunch to, but it's a tremendous stop after the late movie with my best fella.
