Innovative Design, Very Low Signal Strength

Last summer I bought a nice new Toshiba flat screen TV. I only use it to watch movies, either on my Blu-ray player or via Netflix the ever-escalating cable subscription costs have finally made me pull the plug on the watching the "regular" television, but every once in a while would be nice to see a live sporting event. So when the opportunity presented itself to check out this innovatively designed antenna, I took advantage of it and decided to try it out. So far, unfortunately, I have been very unimpressed.

My TV sits against the inner wall of my living room, and that wall would be the natural place to "mount" this antenna. However, when I first ran the channel scan with the antenna positioned near the TV I was unable to get any channels. I decided to retest it with the antenna positioned near the outside window, some ten feet away from the TV set (it fortunately comes with a coaxial cable that's that long), and this time I had more success. I ran the scan twice, first time detecting six channels, and the second time eight. Even with this "improved" antenna positioning the TV signal was very low, and all the picture quality was choppy.

It seems that this antenna is best suited for the urban or similar locations where the TV signal strength is relatively strong. After getting this antenna I checked the broadcast listings for my area, and in addition to listing all the channels that I should be able to receive, the website indicated that I would probably need an outdoor antenna for the best signal strength. This is unfortunate since I really liked the compact design flat design of this antenna, but I guess I will not have much use of it after all.
