I had to walk by the Rio Hotel's Chippendale show waiting area to get to Cafe Martarano's and I somehow managed to keep my appetite and I'm so glad that I did.
When you enter Cafe Martarano's it is superbly decorated but what you notice is the Motown soundtrack. This volume is not at a typical "what was that playing" restaurant level, but it isn't quite at the "what did you say" club level either. It was loud enough to make you move in your seat. You know you are in for something different and with a personality.
There is a picture of the muscled and tatted up owner from Brooklyn. I assume he likes the music at the level it's playing at because I don't think many are going to bust his ball and ask him to turn down the volume.
For an appetizer my dining companions had the eggplant stacks. They loved it. I passed because I don't do eggplant. I am certainly glad the owner didn't come out to see how I liked it.
For dinner in this uber different environment, I decided to go classic and get the chicken parmigiana. It was good. My only complaint was that it seemed heavy on the tomato pulp in the sauce. I'm not a big fan of tomatoes so this stuck out to me, but your experience may vary.
During dinner the music stopped only once. I imagine that this is a regular thing. They interrupted the music to play a movie clip. Our clip was from Analyze This. OK, I will go ahead and embed the video as I found the same clip on YouTube!
Needless to say, this restaurant is not for the young kids or those who might be easily offended by movie clips laden with F bombs.
The great food, awesome music and little surprises, Cafe Matarano's is a nice spot for Italian food and chair dancing and movie clip watching in Las Vegas.
