I Could Eat A #2 Everyday For the Rest of My Life!

If you need to know the definition of perfection, going to In N Out would be a good place to start. I have never had a bad experience at this "fast food chain, everytime I eat here it's "the best burger I've ever had," not to mention, the price is right!

I think In N Out's success can be attributed to a few key qualities of the chain:

1. It's privateley owned, allowing them to keep a careful eye on every location and any major changes have to go through the same family of owners who have successfully operated the chain for decades. Also, they have kept expansion small, only opening In n Out's in California, Arizona, Nevada and most recently, Utah.

2. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid!) In N Out exemplifies this motto by sticking with the 3 original menu items and the three flavors of milkshakes and getting the formula down pat.

3. Secret Menu. What a remarkable marketing strategy! Allowing patrons to make slight adjustments to their orders using a set of "code references" that are only available via the website or word of mouth! Brilliant, especially the Animal Style Fries! (Here is a link to the most complete list of secret menu items on the web, complete with pictures! http://www.badmouth.net/in-n-outs-secret-menu/)

4. Always fresh! The burgers are never frozen, the shakes use real ice cream and the fries are hand cut from real potatoes! How do I know? You can see them making everything from the counter where they take your order!

So there you have it, what more can I say? If you haven't had the chance to try this epic chain because of geographical limitations I suggest making a pilgrimage, yes, it's THAT GOOD! Always on the itinerary when friends from the East Coast come to visit me out here. So good that my friends and I have been making weekly Sunday morning trips in our sweatpants for years, we love to re-count the weekend (and cure our hangovers) with an exemplary American fast food meal!

So, I've lived in CA for a little over 6 months now and I haven't eaten anything at In N Out besides a milkshake. S.A.C.R.I.L.E.G.E. I really need to get on my game! Thanks for the in-depth review.

Great first review. It's amazing how good In-N-Out is. It's my wife's favorite restaurant and she's a vegetarian! Even vegetarians love this burger joint. Amazing!

Haha, I'm an In-N-Out addict, so I say this really is worth making the pilgramage for, too!  They got the kudos from Eric Schlosser in Fast Food Nation and those are some tough kudos to get.  Great review, Claire! :)

This review was written because today my boyfriend and I went to In-N-Out. So what is the significance of that? Well, I freakin' LOVE In-N-Out burgers! I'm very partial to fast food in general; always picky after watching the documentary Super Size Me ... but I just can't get over how delicious this fast food chain actually is. And honestly, I'm not very fond of hamburgers; so usually when I do have to go to some fast food place I always order the wraps or something else.     The …

You come here for burgers people.
In N Out was something I grew up around and never fully experienced.  It would be sometime before I would get to try one again and when I did I wondered where those lost meal opportunities went toward?      Best burger on the planet?  Could just be.  Lets see...McDonalds and White Castle?  Don't make me gut laugh!  Hardee's and Burger King?  No way.  Every town has it's own good local burger chain but nope sorry not even those.  …

It is not an overstatement to say that In 'n' Out burger has achieved So Cal icon status.   In 'n' Out recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and they haven't aged a bit!  Same delicious food and great service that I remember getting back in the '70s and same great value for your money!   The first place I think of to take a recently-arrived-in-L.A. foreigner (especially those that hail from Japan) is In 'n' Out.  Why?  Because …

Carl's, Sonic, Jack, Mickey D's... they all pale in comparison to the beauty we call In-N-Out.    In-N-Out uses all fresh ingredients--from the soft bread to the fresh tomatoes and lettuce, from the awesome beef to the "special sauce" (we all know it's Thousand Island).    In-N-Out was only a Southern California luxury until it expanded to parts of Nevada and Arizona.  Sure, we lost a key part of what made California what it is... but I guess we can share.  …
