The "Olive Garden" of French cuisine.

For what it is, I really like Mimi's Cafe. It's nice to see a chain of French-inspired restaurants, because all too often we're really only given a choice between Italian and Mexican cuisine here in California. Not to say I don't like the other cuisines; in fact, nothing is better than a good, authentic Mexican dish. But Mimi's offers a refreshing change here and there.

I have plenty of favorites at Mimi's, and each depends on my mood. When I'm really hungry, I usually order the French Quarter burger. It's served either on a croissant or ciabatta bread, with avocado, cheese, and the usual trimmings, and I usually ask for no bacon. Other times, I like their grilled cheese sandwich, made with four cheeses. They also have really good liver dishes, although I've never personally ordered any.

Stepping inside Mimi's is like visiting an old country house in France. But once you go in, you'll see they have rooms with different themes, like a Paris bistro, or a wine cellar, etc. I've never heard a customer actually request a specific room, but if you become a regular, they try to give you some variety.

I like Mimi's, even though it's not exactly authentic French cuisine, and it's a great place to take friends and have a good time.
