Finally, A Fabulous Friday Affordable Oasis by the Beach
Jun 6, 2009
Poolside at the Viceroy has always been a great a place to have drinks and a delicious bite. The ambience of great music, comfortable chairs, cozy cabanas and swaying palm trees always makes it seem like a Shang gri-La of sorts. As I was looking for their Summer Taste Of Tuesday event (this starts later in the season), I discovered a Friday only Happy Hour. Knowing the food from , Whist, is always delicious, I immediately checked out what the Happy Hour menu entailed. Several Slider options, Ahi Tartare, BBQ Pulled Pork, Beef and Fried Chicken. Spicy edamame, hummus, quesadilla were other options, nothing too extrodinary, but enough to tempt my palate. The must try was a Fried Chicken and Biscuit Slider. It was gourmet KFC. The spiced Coleslaw on the biscuit added another layer of flavor that made my mouth want to savor every bite. I actually chewed slowly and took small bites! What really caught my eye was the progressive drink specials. 2pm drinks are $2, 3pm/ $3, 4pm/ $4 and finally 5pm/ $5. What was even more amazing were the drink options. Erath, St. Supery, Sonoma Coast, and Paul Dolan were some of the wine choices. The beer options are Stella Artois, Red Stripe, Amstel, Corona and a couple of domestics As if $2 amstels and glasses of St. Supery were not enough to ensure my return, the Liquor options of Bacardi, Skyy, Herradura, Dewars, were enough to ensure Summer Friday at the Viceroy would never get old. They seemed to be a bit understaffed since the servers showed up about once an hour and the tables were not getting bussed in adequate time. Empty tables were left un-bussed for longer than 30 minutes. My fellow Happy Hourians thought it was how they were able to have drinks start at $2. Cynics they may be, I see that as a challenge. You can always get up and actually walk to the bar to get drinks, no line at all. Getting food has to be ordered through a server. They have a great appetizer menu, as well. with all the money you save on drinks a couple of regular priced appetizers seem practically free. The big laugh of the evening was seeing a bill for 3 people, 3 delicious drinks and 3 full bellies was only about $70, this included our astonishingly priced $6 iced teas! So many options for drink specials, great music, decent food, The Viceroy Summer Fridays are definitely a "Do-Over." Do NOT waste your money on the Iced Tea. As the weather warms up I am sure seating will get much more sparse. Spread the word at your own risk. I'll be getting there at 1:45. Enjoy!
