Coachella -- A Weekend of Decision Making

  • Mar 13, 2009

oooh ... 2009 Coachella is quickly approaching -- but it's in the desert.

Girl Talk!   Junior Boys!   TV on the Radio! -- ooh, but ... it's in the desert.

The worst thing about Coachella is [besides the heat] the decisions you will have to make.  Will Silversun Pickups play the same time as Franz Ferdinand?  Well, you can catch half of Silversun run on over to the Main Stage, then run back to the Gobi Tent to watch Beruit.  The line up times usually go up a couple of days before the event so you cannot plan your musical excursion until then.  Like an excited kid the night before a trip to Disneyland plotting the most efficient way around the theme park, planning Coachella can be the same experience.  There's always overlaps.

It's almost like sensory overload.  Besides the extreme heat there are sculptures scattered throughout the Empire Polo Field.  On your way to Beer Gardens and the three tents and two stages you can see fantastically large instillations.

Cochella is hot -- and dirty. [don't wear your fancy duds]  It's amazing to have such a high concentration of amazing bands in one area and is always exciting to see the stellar lineup.  This year is no exception with Paul McCarthney headlining night one.

It's definitely worth the trek. At least once. It's great to meet a bunch of different people from all over North America and beyond ...

Been to many other mega-fests, but not this one. Would love to go. It's on my 'bucket' list!

About this song

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly known as Coachella or Coachella Fest) is a three-day (formerly a one or two-day) annual music and arts festival organized by Goldenvoice held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. The event features many genres of music including alternative rock, hip hop, and Electronic music as well as large sculptural art. The event has several stages/tents set-up throughout the grounds, each playing live music continuously. The main stages are: Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and the Sahara Tent (2006 also saw the addition of a smaller Oasis Dome).

The Coachella Music Festival has a desert setting (the city of Indio is a part of the Colorado Desert), with daytime temperatures frequently rising to over 100°F (38°C). The festival enjoys little cloud cover or shade. The temperature drops drastically after sunset.
