The Beach Boys share their love of cars in this concept album.
Sep 20, 2009
Little Deuce Coupe is a tribute to the car crazy youth of America. The music was written by Brian Wilson and the lyrics by Roger Christian, Wilson and Mike Love. One of the first rock n' roll concept albums, each song is about cars and the kids who love them. The album was produced and quickly recorded by the band. Guitarist David Marks would be replaced by the returning Al Jardine after the completion of the album. Be True to Your School would chart in the Top Ten at number four and the album charted as well for over 48 weeks. The songs were quickly recorded (except 409 and Shut Down which were already released earlier). One of the songs (A Young Man is Gone) is a tribute to the late James Dean. Our Car Club is about a group of kids forming a (gang) car club to show off their colors, initiate members and cruise around all night. Ballad of Old Betsy is about a jalopy and Car Crazy Cutie deals with a girl who just loves fast cars.
If you love the Beach Boys or a fan of concept albums then you will want to check this one out. Good old fashion fan from America's own.

Little Deuce Coupe is The Beach Boys' fourth album, and third overall LP release in 1963. Almost unintentionally, the album was rush-recorded and compiled when leader Brian Wilson sought to protect his band from exploitation from Capitol Records.
Little Deuce Coupe hit #4 in the US during a 46-week chart stay. Little Deuce Coupe (Capitol (S) T 1998) is now paired on CD with All Summer Long, with bonus tracks from that period.
