I rushed out and purchased the sound track when it was first available because I loved the movie sooo much--I still love the movie. I mean it is an eclectic group of great songs that crosses musical eras and genres. When I purchased my iPod I upload all the songs... Now, I am falling out of love actually. So maybe it's a great buy and something you listen to every now and again...but don't play it over and over because it will just get old.
The liner notes of the soundtrack comes from the the movie's director, Richard Curtis, and he says the songs here are the "life and soul of the film." I do agree with Curtis and the music works well with the film. A quick listen confirms Curtis' claim, as the soundtrack is filled with fully romantic modernish pop. Maybe together with the film the soundtrack works better than on its own.
Wow. There's discussion about this movie soundtrack and no one has brought up Eva Cassidy's cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Songbird"? That scene where Laura Linney is about to think about herself for a change and looks to get intimate with her co-worker, was perfect for "Songbird" to be played to. Eva Cassidy has the voice of a songbird, ironically. Sadly, she passed away and most of her music became famous posthumously. I love how she sang as if she … more
This movie is one of my favorites of all time. However, a lot of this is due to the excellent music. The soundtrack really compliments the movie well and if you see the movie, you will most likely want a copy of the soundtrack as well. The combination of classic, timeless artists like Joni Mitchell with more contemporary artists like Wyclef Jean and Kelly Clarkson makes this a delightful soundtrack to listen to. I highly recommend it!
Usually, when you listen to a soundtrack - you hardly remember where or what significance a song may have to what you had just seen. But with the music compiled to create the soundtrack for Love Actually, every song is remembered in which scene it was played. It is THAT good of a script, and THAT good of a soundtrack that go well together. You even feel the same way you felt when you watched the movie at the time that you hear each of the songs play. I highly recommend listening … more
Includes liner notes by Richard Curtis. In the liner notes that accompany the soundtrack to LOVE ACTUALLY, the movie's director Richard Curtis writes that the songs here are the "life and soul of the film." This perspective is naturally a welcome change from the often-mercenary and seemingly random perspective that plagues many original soundtrack releases. One listen quickly verifies Curtis' claim, as the disc is filled with unabashedly romantic modern pop. Anyone who's seen comedies starring Hugh Grant knows his trademark combination of self-effacing, witty humor and slightly sophisticated regular-guy appeal. The music here (including artists such as the Beach Boys and Norah Jones) sounds exactly like what one might imagine a Grant character would be listening to on his home stereo. From the melancholy electronica-framed strains of Dido's gorgeous "Here with Me" to Joni Mitchell's world-wizened, contemporary take on her classic "Both Sides Now," the material on LOVE ACTUALLY perfectly suits the film's ...
