The Doors sans Jim Morrison.

The Doors continued as a band when Jim Morrison decided to quit the band and head off for France.  Instead of calling it a day, the band decided to continue to go on.  With Morrison gone, Ray Manzarek took up most of the vocals duties (sharing a couple of songs with the guitar player Robby Krieger). The album was released after the death of Jim Morrison and many of the "fans" don't consider this disc (along with the second post-Morrison album Full Circle) an "official" Doors release.  Because of this, Other Voices is not available in the US, it wasn't digitally remastered and released along with the rest of the band's catalog.  Tis a shame really because the music is real good.  You can find some of the Post-Morrison's work on youtube,

I really dig this album.  I hope real fans of the band would track down a copy and find out that the band doesn't miss a beat without their dearly departed front man.  The music is still the same and Manzarek does an excellent job at providing the vocals.  His gruff blues influenced vocal stylings are balanced by Krieger's more softer approach.  The two balance themselves out on the album.  The only time Manzerak was allowed to sing was whenever Morrison was too incapacitated with drugs and alcohol.  My favorite tracks from the album are "In the Eye of the Storm", "Tightrope Ride", "Variety is the Spice of Life" and "Down on the Farm".

Highly recommended if you can locate a copy.

Thanks so much for letting us know about this! I'm going to have to check out Amoeba to see if I can dig up a copy of this.

You can find a used LP but a CD is real hard to come by. I'll review the second post-Morrison album soon.

I'm a vinyl DJ so that I always grab up those gems on vinyl! I'll get the used LP and record it onto my computer, make a CD for you and send it to you! That way we both win ;p Looking forward to the next review!
