Fascinating Art

I've the fortune to chance upon this amazing episode of the TV Series of Art Wolfe's Travels to the Edge: Iceland. It's the first time I've ever watched this beautifully crafted travel videos by a professional photographer. Having been in China for the last few years have kept me out of the loop for such tv shows, especially travel shows since I didn't subscribed to any English cable TV so that I may brush up on my Mandarin & brushed up I did. For majority of Chinese in China, I'm now totally local. None of them actually had any inkling I'm a foreigner until I admit it out of my own accord. Cool, isn't it? ;-) The funniest thing was that when I return to Singapore for visits and spoke Mandarin to the cab drivers, they even thought I was from China! So, I guess I'm pretty successful with my Mandarin :-)

Now, back to Travels to the Edge. I saw it on Hong Kong's Asia TV (World) just and I was captured totally! It's the best photography I've ever seen on TV, as good as those of National Geographics! Surreal, spectacular & stunningly beautiful!!! Naturally, Iceland is quite something but the photographer/host of this show managed to capture it at the best light possiband brought out the bluest blue I've seen on the Icebergs on Jokulsalon, a place I've visited.

I've checked up on its official website which offers a glimpse of some of the videos. Travels to the Edge is now in Season 2. Iceland is from Season 2. Interestingly, Season 1 offers some of the countries which I've hoped to visit, like Bolivia, Madagascar & Kenya! I'm definitely going to check out each and everyone of them, including Glacier Bay & Mt. Fitzroy. Antarctica, Bhutan & Mongolia are some of the interesting places Art Wolfe visited in Season 2. Fascinating, aren't they?

Art Wolfe is a professional photographer who has traveled to hundreds of locations for photo shoots. Most of these remote locations offer immense beauty that few of us are lucky enough to visit for ourselves. His mission is to show the beauty and grandeur of the Earth before these sights totally disappear from our views. I've always admired the many professional photographers who took the pains (well, to them are real pleasures) to go all out for a spectacular shots. One that define his/her identity. One that makes it worthwhile to have lived this life, I think :-) They rise early in the morning or stayed up the whole night, in the cold, out there endangering their lives, simply to bring what's wild and surreal to the rest of mankind. These photographers have a mission in life. Somewhat like those war reporters, I believe.

Below are 2 slideshows which feature some of his photography works. I am sure you'll like them as much as I do!
