Bored to Death? Not me.

If you have a dry sense of humor and a sense of the absurd, this show may be a real find for you.

Here's the plot. Jonathan, a struggling novelist with a single book under his belt, and a nifty little apartment in Brooklyn (looks like Pierpont Street in Brooklyn Heights) is stuck in his second book. He needs some cash and inspiration so he advertises on Craig's List as an "unlicensed private detective." Jonathan is the kind of guy who is honest enough to tell his clients he's not licensed but not sharp enough to figure out how to make a living without this kind of dopy scheme. This is good for us, because watching Jonathan get into scrape after scrape in recognisable Brooklyn neighborhoods and call on his two buddies, Ray (Zach Galifianakis ) , a self-published comic book artist and George Christopher (Ted Danson) editor of a thinnly disguised New York Magazine, is very very funny.

The show highlights the absurdity of a number of aspects of NYC life. I used to live in Jonathan's neighborhood and not only does it bring back memories, it makes me remember that NYC is far more like a small town than most people realize.

The cast of this show is flawless and viewers will spot many successful character actors. Cheers to HBO for giving us another season!

Great review! I've checked this out a couple of times and have enjoyed the interactions between the three main characters. I think that it's definitely a witty show and also gives us a slice of the NYC life that I hear about but, never see!

Thanks Samantha. Yes, that is exactly it! Brooklyn is a huge diverse city unto itself. It has Brownstone neighborhoods, working class neighborhoods, neighborhoods that look like beach townsm, neighborhoods that look like the suburbs and others that look like the worse housing projects imaginable. Bored to Death gives you a glimpse of it.

Gotta say I didn't much care for the show's first season. I almost didn't tune in for season 2 b/c I thought the first season was so horribly paced, but this second season? That was a very solid string of episodes b/c they finally hit solid strides focusing on character issues.
