Damages on FX

Recently, I have been tuning into the cable network FX to watch "Damages" and it's my new guilty pleasure of television viewing.  I always have found FX's shows particularly entertaining to watch.  Soon, Nip/Tuck will be ending it's run on the network. There's one show called "The Riches" which had a short-lived run, it ended abruptly a few years ago.  It starred British comedian, Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as the patriarch and matriarch of a family of grifters or as they are referred to as "travelers".  They impersonate a couple who are killed in a RV accident. They move into their house with their three children and take over their lives.

Damages stars Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, Martin Short, Tate Donovan, Campbell Scott and Lily Tomlin.  Ted Danson starred in the earlier seasons but was killed off.  It's fast-paced with plenty of twists and turns in the plot.  This season's plotline is an eerie takeoff from recent months of a Madoff-like family called the Tobins.  Campbell Scott plays the son, Joe Tobin and Martin Short, in a surprisingly dramatic turn-plays the family attorney, Leonard Winstone and Lily Tomlin is Marilyn Tobin, the family's matriarch.  The show's plot is centered around the law firm of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and her relationship with Ellen (Rose Bryne). This season, Ellen is now working with the NYC's District Attorney's office who is prosecuting Louis Tobin.  Tate Donovan plays Tom Shays who works with Patty Hewes' law firm and is murdered.  The show has flashbacks and fast-tracked in periods of six months earlier to six months later to explain happenings in the show.

Glenn Close is well-deserving of her Emmy nods for the portrayal of Patty Hewes.  The whole cast is made up of fine actors.  The show will have a long history of winning many awards in its future.
