Created and executive produced by David Milch ("NYPD Blue"), Deadwood has been one of the most acclaimed dramas on television. The series was nominated for 22 Emmys and won 7, and earned a Golden Globe Award in its first two seasons for Ian McShane.
By far, my favorite character on Deadwood would be Al Swearengen, played by Ian McShane. However, there are many other very talented actors on the set, including Brad Dourif, who plays the growly yet loyal Doc Cochran; the rebellious whore Trixie, played by Paula Malcomson; Robin Weigert as Calamity Jane; and Timothy Olyphant as Sherriff Bullock. I would name them all but it would take an eternity.
Not only is this series extremely entertaining, it has been very educational for me as well. I went into it not knowing much at all about the township of Deadwood (even though it really isn't too far away from where I have lived my whole life), and left knowing much more of the history behind the town and the residents of early Deadwood, South Dakota.
I give this series five stars!
