Out of Control

I have mixed feelings about Head Case - there were moments when I found it funny, and others when I just got annoyed by the stupid jokes and the complete lack of reality.

The show centers around Dr. Goode, a therapist with an all-celebrity clientele and very strange methods of treating them. She's just as likely to don a pig's mask and pull out a dildo as she is to provide actual therapy. While she's giving advice to the clients that range from sex addicts to alcoholics, her own life seems to be a mess. She's tearfully and constantly berating her ex, throwing tantrums in front of her clients, and being a control freak.

While the Head Case has its good moments, I found it hard to stay interested since nothing about the show was believable. I think even comedies have to be somewhat grounded in the real world, otherwise it's just ridiculous, slapstick humor that quickly loses its appeal. I felt that the show was trying to be hard to imitate Curb Your Enthusiasm, and failed on many counts. Curb Your Enthusiasm was appealing because it poked fun at every day events, things I could actually see happening. In contrast, Head Case was not all that funny, just bizarre.
