Best Medical Drama On TV?

While my past experience with medical dramas has been limited to ER re-runs (I loved it when Clooney was in the mix), House has quickly become one of the few weekly programs I tune in for. I say quickly because I've only been watching it for a month or two, re-runs and new episodes alike. I believe the main reason for the attraction is in Hugh Laurie's moving portrayal of a man both blessed and cursed with the ability to reach the heart of the matter without taking shortcuts (unless of course he finds them suitable). He often finds himself alienated within his own practice; it keeps you hitched to every conversation (or confrontation) he finds himself in. The humor is probably House's most distinguishing feature, and it is own that livens up what otherwise might be just an above-average medical drama. As previously stated by another reviewer, the internal "this is what's happening to you" shots are very inventive and add a touch of realism that only briefly showed up in previous shows of this ilk. I do recall ER doing this a time or two, but I could be mistaken. When you sum it all up, excellent acting and rich, provocative writing combine with a few flashes of ingenuity to make House a show that stands apart from most others on television today. All this coming from someone who typically avoids fictional (even the kind that's based on reality) TV should tell you that it's worth checking out if you haven't already, even if you think you won't enjoy it. I thought the same exact thing, and was pleasantly surprised.

I really don't care much for episodic tv, but I try to never mss an episode of HOUSE. I even watch the reruns. There's nothing like a good old fashioned misanthrope to brighten up my day.

I would have a thought, but I have yet to sit down and watch an episode of Grey's Anatomy. I do believe I'll do so soon, but I always have to set aside time and actually make an effort to watch TV; usually music and reading/writing take up my free time. Thanks for the kind words though! Whenever I get down to watching GA, I'll be sure to throw my thoughts into the mix.

House...The game is afoot!
The televisions show house is a modern adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  Gregory House is the Sherlock Holmes character, who uses his genious level knowledge of all things medical and deductive reasoning to solve various "cases" presented in each episode.      Sherlock Holmes had an addiction to Cocaine and Morphine.  House is addicted to Vicodan and other painkillers.  Sherlock had his foil in Dr. John H. Watson, …

What gives a show longevity in my opinion is how well it can hold up with each new season and what it does to keep it's basic premise and formula from getting too stale. While I love House to death, it wasn't without it's problems in seasons three through five. The formula almost became, in the words of a friend, "a parody of itself." Couldn't have agreed more. What surprised me the most about this most recent season, however, is that the makers decided to go places with the characters …

I admit I said I was getting tired of House's attitude on previous seasons, and last year I missed all of the episodes, but now I am getting too curious as to what I have missed! LOL I think that maybe after watching so many reruns of House, I got tired of it. I intend to start watching it again this season, and just skip all the reruns and House marathons! Thank you guys for making me interested in the show again!!

I can't help feeling it was better in the earlier series--or even it was fantastic in the earlier series. I loved the way each episode was like a well structured story in itself.

I just finally caught up on House and watched the finale on Hulu last night. I felt as if it was just another episode, finales usually stand out and apart, bu this was a little disappointing. I guess they writers considered the big crane crash a dramatic end, but all I have to say is if Cuddy and House did not kiss it would not have been anything special.      I acknowledge that there was also his breakdown about his leg, but honestly, same old stuff, we all know …

I used to watch House faithfully, as I really enjoyed his character and smart-ass remarks, but have since lost my interest - it seems his character was getting more unrealistic as time went on; he has become too self-centered and selfish and the things he gets by with as a Doctor are just not feasible; working in a hospital for years myself, no doctor would be able to pull off what he does without getting canned. House's attitude just got old really quick for me.

Good show but I got tired of it. Didn't watch it last year.

Formulaic but enjoyable. I'm not satisfied with only subtext fanservice and innuendo.

Awesome show, it covers so many different aspects of life besides just the hospital setting. The character House is amazing.
