It's Always FUNNY in Philadelphia... sorry I couldn't resist...

I apologize for the title of this review, I know it was cheesy as hell but I just couldn't resist.  The FX sitcom, It's always Sunny in Philiadelphia is some seriously funny television and that's no joke.  I discovered this one the same way I discover most shows these days, on DVD.  I must have watched the entire first season or two within 48 hours (ah the beauty of tv shows on dvd)...  



"Always Sunny" (as it's also known) was created and developed by Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day, who also star in the show. The series follows the crazy exploits of "The Gang", a group of really self-centered friends who run Paddy's Pub, a completely unsuccessful Irish bar in South Philadelphia. Danny Devito joined the cast in the 2nd season.




In the mold of shows like "Arrested Development" and "The Office", this quirky, single camera comedy sitcom doesn't disappoint.  This gang of misfits take ignorant selfishness to new heights as they try (quite unsuccesfully) to turn Paddy's Pub into Philiadelphia's hottest location.  To give you an example of some of the drunken shenanigans they get into, the first three episodes are called the following: "The Gang gets Racist", "Charlie wants an abortion" and "Underage Drinking: A national concern".  Now these titles may sound offensive, but thats nothing, after you watch the loonacy that ensues, you will by a fan for life.  Check it out, on FX.

In my review of The Big Bang Theory, I mentioned that show may be the Seinfeld of the millennium because of the way its cast chemistry carries it, and because of how mean the main characters can be to each other. Where the two differ is that Seinfeld was a dark comedy and The Big Bang Theory really isn't quite so dark.
