Will John and Kate please go away!

I have never seen this show...but I know way too much about John and Kate.  When I go to the market and am checking out, I can't help but notice that John and Kate are on the cover of every magazine. They are also all over the internet (I am not talking about tmz or gossip sites...but MSN and Yahoo) and television (again, I don't watch Extra...but they are showing up everywhere).

What is the deal? I gather that they were "regular people" who had a lot of kids. I also gather that Kate bosses John around. I suppose that makes for a compelling TV concept but it is not something that I would want to watch. Now I have picked up that she has a new haircut and is supposedly having an affair with a bodyguard (why does she have a bodyguard?) and he is supposedly having an affair with a teacher (which is good I guess since any woman he is with will need childcare skills). I also saw that the teacher's brother ratted them out to the press in part because the couple was so loud.

I feel disgusted that I have sucked up this much knowledge about their lives even though I have not watched the show, seen them interviewed or read an article about them. I have gleaned all this from checking out of supermarkets, seeing headlines on the internet, listening to the radio in my car and seeing ads for TV shows.

Is there anything that can be learned from this? Were they happy before the fame and money? Does the media spotlight destroy families? Will Kate's layered semi-mullet haircut become the women's fashion trend of the summer of 09? I don't have the answers to these questions, but I am sure that these issues will be explored in depth as the summer goes on.

What did you think of this review?

AMEN!!! Thank you so much for posting this. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I did not even know who John and Kate were until my friend said.."OMG! Is John really cheating on Kate!!?" And I looked at her and said.."Who is John and who is Kate??" And THENnnnn... I go to the store and I see all these magazines with John and Kate headlines and I'm thinking... did I miss something... who are these people. Now i know, but I have to say... I stilldont care. So like you said... John and Kate Please go away!! And to the people who love them... I respect that. Hope it works out for them. :)

I know how you feel but (don't shoot me) I love that show. Those kids (not the older twins) are so darn cute. I think I'm biased because I'm have Asian too, but whatever.

Hahahahaha, I've only ever watched one episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8, and yet, I feel like I know way too much about them, too.  You know it's bad when even CNN of all news outlets decide to pick it up, too.

And dear god, I hope the reverse mullet doesn't become a fashion trend EVER.  Have you seen those blogs where people have photoshopped Kate's reverse mullet onto the heads of other celebrities?  It's cring-worthy, though I must say, it's kind of becoming on Ashton Kutcher, Eminem and Aretha Franklin...

Here's the article in question if you've never seen it before :P

That is really funny. Thanks for the comment.

well said!! you know, i love my US Weekly magazine...in fact, it is one of the highlights of my week. (my husbands, too, but he would deny that). Anyways, John and Kate have been on every single cover for the last 5 or 6 weeks. Imagine how dissapointed we were to see that, week after week, being that we don't watch the show or care about them as a couple. yes, we care about children but we have our own to worry about. I'm surprised that America became transfixed with this. Good news on the horizon, though. Stephanie Pratt (Spencer Pratt's sister) had bulemia and was able to steal the cover of US weekly with that story. ;-)

Nice job....points well taken. I too, don't know John and Kate and here I am writing about them......that's what good P.R. will do and they're surely getting enough of it. These type shows suck you in whether you're interested or not. I'm most certain their impending divorce was planned all along...probably before they started doing the show. Personally, I would like to see shows with substance instead of these perpetually boring reality shows, (yawn)! Now I know why my television is mostly turned off at night. Thanks for writing about this...

Thanks Valsviews. I know you are in Europe, so perhaps you have escaped the publicity surrounding these people. It is pretty massive here in the States.

Jon and Kate, as you learn from the opening credits of TLC's series "Jon & Kate Plus Eight," began with a set of twins: Cara and Mady.  Jon and Kate decided to go for one more, and ended up with sextuplets.    Ordinarily, I don't know if I can handle a show with such high volumes of shrieking and crying (I'm not a Kindergarten teacher for a reason), but Jon and Kate are so normal and handle their frustrations with such good nature (without hiding their irritation) that …

Jon & Kate plus 8
I love love love this show. Why? Families have always intrigued me - the dynamics between everyone, how they are different or similar, the size of the family, etc. This family - a mom, dad, twins, and sextuplets (hence Jon & Kate Plus 8), are obviously out of the norm, and thus, more intriguing. Granted, there are more reality shows with families that are even larger, but this particular family strikes me as more in touch with modern times. They're not home-schooled, overtly religious, or living …

About this tv show

Wiki

Jon & Kate Plus 8 (also known as Jon & Kate Plus Eight and stylized on the title card as Jon & Kate Plus Ei8ht) is a reality television show produced in the United States by Figure 8 Films about the Gosselin family, consisting of parents Jon and Kate and their eight children: fraternal twins and sextuplets. The show follows the family through their daily lives, focusing on the challenges of raising multiple children, and the many things they do together like day trips etc. The show originally aired on Discovery Health, but has aired on TLC since season 3. The show was one of the highest rated programs on TLC during its run and the fifth season premiere was seen by a record 9.8 million viewers, the most watched show of that evening including broadcast television, twice as many viewers as the show’s previous series high. The family originally appeared in two one-hour specials titled Surviving Sextuplets and Twins and Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later.

On September 29, 2009, TLC announced that as of November 2, the program would undergo a name change, to Kate Plus Eight. The series would focus on Kate as a single mother raising eight children. Despite the new title, Jon Gosselin would continue to appear on the show, just less frequently. TLC announced that filming the children had been suspended, due to lawyers for Jon Gosselin delivering letters to TLC demanding that they cease and desist production and barred production crews from the couple's ...
