Law & Order is my favorite time waster, my favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon when I'm sick or just too tired to do anything, my favorite go-to background show while I cruise the Internet....well, you get the picture. There are three Law & Orders- the original with Sam Waterson who has played the DA (now Executive D.A) for 18 seasons, Special Victims Unit (my favorite with Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, and Christopher Meloni) and finally, Criminal Intent.

Criminal Intent follows two detectives played by Vincent D'Onofrio (who I just can't ever get past ever since I saw him in The Cell with Jennifer Lopez, I always just think he's off because of it) and Kathryn Erbe as they explore the more psychological aspect of crime solving. I don't know what it is about these two but, they don't seem to have the same "It" factor as the cast members of the other shows. It comes across often as a little dull to me, like they're trying too hard and it's not as natural as the others. It could just be my bias because I still watch it but, it doesn't suck me in as well as the original Law & Order or SVU.

Jeff Goldblum joins the cast to try to revive it a bit and is his quirky self. Eric Bogosian as Capt. Danny Ross is actually quite impressive. I have the same feelings toward Bogosian that I do with D'Onofrio because I've read most, if not all of his plays before I ever saw him as an actor. Both actors do a commendable job in their respective roles and do add a little something that the show was lacking, I just don't know what.

Overall, Criminal Intent is the one that I keep on in the background when I'm doing stuff on the Internet. Every once in a while it'll pique my interest and then, of course in typical Law & Order fashion, I have to see the end. It won't waste hours of your day, which is actually a good thing every once in a while.

I don't get that at all. Goren is supposed to be not quite right, just like his mother, and D'Onofrio is great in the role. He's probably the most electrifying actor to star in one of Law & Order franchises since Michael Moriarity as the D.A. in the earliest days of the original Law & Order long before Sam Waterston. But everyone's entitled to an opinion. And as for Eric Bogosian he filmed a couple performances of those one man shows you read. SEX DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL for instance. My favorite was ERIC BOGOSIAN'S FUNHOUSE. He also starred in and co-wrote the screenplay for Oliver Stone's TALK RADIO  (1988) which was based on Bogosian's original play.

I agree with everything you said, and my Law & Order watching habits are very similar to yours! Law & Order is the TV show that I have on every weeknight after work that I occasionally glance it while surfing the 'net, but no matter what, I always have to tune in at the end to watch Goren's epic breakdown of the case, and of course, Eame's witty quip.
