Peter Gunn, Cool Private Eye Show From The Late 50's. By Blake Edwards
Jul 19, 2010
Peter Gunn is a classic television show from the late 50's. The half hour private eye show is full of hard dicks, soft women, blazing guns and cool jazz. Craig Stevens plays the suave shamus that operates mainly at night. He frequents night clubs like The Big Eye, The Big Funnel and of course Mothers where his long suffering girlfriend Edie, played by Lola Albright, sings with a jazz combo. At some point in the show Pete usually gets in some kind of jam and gets helped out by police Lt. Jacoby who is played by Hershel Bernardi. The series was written and directed by Blake Edwards who had a forty year film career directing among others The Pink Panther series, The Days of Wine & Roses and 10. Henry Mancini provided one of the first scores done for a TV show and the theme. The album was a number one hit and stayed on the charts for two years. The show was on for three seasons and there are 114 episodes in total. If you have a NetFlix account you can get it from them or watch it online.
