Sands of Destruction is not a remarkable anime. The character designs are rather basic, you could even say the animators were pretty lazy in that respect; and the story is really simple, with the first two or three episodes being on the boring side. However, if you can get past these things, the series actually gets better as it progresses. I personally enjoyed the (sometimes risque) humor, and the ending was decent, if a little on the weird side. As a dub fan, the voice acting is quite good, even if there are a lot of words that get repeated often enough at times that it gets annoying. For instance, in the span of a short bit of dialogue one of the characters says the word "thug" at least once every sentence.
So, if you're looking for something exceedingly deep, thought provoking, with fantastic animation and a stellar script, Sands of Destruction is not for you. If on the other hand you want some fairly mindless fun mixed with some surprisingly convincing drama and more than enough comic relief, I would recommend this two disc series. (2 1/2 stars)
