I really didn't like this series at all. I thought the action was pathetic and Spider-Man was made out to look way too weak. Unlike X-Men that took major storylines like the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix saga and did decent to pretty good jobs bringing them to animation, I don't think Spiderman did any of its storylines well.

You stop that silly trash talk right now, you know I love Spidey. Nah I see your point man but you know what I think of this show. Any way heading out right now, I'll be back to read your reviews later today or tonight.

I love Spidey too, which is why this disappointed me so much. In fact, at this point in time, he was my favorite superhero. So watching him as this weakling who couldn't beat anybody was so annoying.

And take your time man, these reviews ain't going nowhere.

oh, just coming back to comment...Frank he was somewhat like 'lose first and then win' back in the 70's and so I guess since this series grabbed those stories made him... a sort of a weakling. I still like Spidey, but I dunno, after the stupidity they pulled starting with Brand New Day, I kinda lost interest.

I have several of those 60's-70's stories, and that wasn't always the case. And even when he was beaten, he didn't come off as a complete weakling like he did in the series. In fact, the only beating that was even remotely like the comic is when he first met Doc Ock. That series was worthless. Batman suffered his share of defeats in the comic, and the Animated Series still did a better job with making him look like a serious threat.

I hear you about Brand New Day. That entire arc hit an all time low. I always thought it was a mistake to unmask Spidey in Civil War, but that's Marvel with taking risk though. By doing that they put themselves in tight spot.

I did like this series. Agreed, it didn't even compare to "X-Men" or "Batman", but it had its own flavor and some of the animation was good. One of the things I did really like was that it was the first Spidey animated series to focus on a lot of the second tier and more recent villains. Some of the story lines weren't so great, but others were pretty good. The whole "Neogenic Nightmare" arc had some interesting elements and I love that they managed to include more adult characters like Punisher, Morbius, and Blade. I suppose most of the episodes are very dated now, especially with their use of CGI backgrounds when Spidey was web-swinging. Still, it was fun for kids at the time. I'd expect more from a Spidey animated show these days.

In terms of visuals I wouldn't knock it, because I don't think the animation would be as dated. And in regards to action, X-Men wasn't that much better but some of the stories were better executed. I remember coming away from way too many Spider-Man episodes completely disappointed. I didn't care for the Neogenic Nightmare at all, and even though there was a focus on second string characters it just didn't do much for me. I remember one episode where Tombstone appeared to be far tougher, more powerful, and cooler than Spiderman. I just didn't like it.

I think in retrospect, the biggest thrill was in seeing characters like Venom, Carnage, Hobgoblin, Black Cat, and the various guest characters like Doctor Strange and Blade that made it so cool for me at the time. Those characters never got their proper respect outside of the comics back then. "X-Men" had better writing and better animation I think, but Spidey had all the interesting characters and voice actors behind them. One thing that bugged me about "X-Men" was that some of the voice actors weren't very convincing (especially for Jean Grey, Jubilee and Cyclops).

Quick Tip by . November 07, 2011
I barely remember watching this on TV back in the mid 90's, but all I remember was being bored and irritated. Certainly something I won't be re-watching.  I'll be looking at the best Spidey comics if I want to get into Spider Man.
