Oprah, how I love thee

I know I love a lot of bad reality TV (The Hills..... haha), but Oprah is truly one of my all time favorite shows.. and people.  She covers such a BROAD range of topics and she really cares.  Honestly I learn so much from watching any of her shows.... even when she has actors/actresses.  Normally I'd have to say that guest actor/actresses on talk shows result in gossip talk.. but somehow Oprah manages to ask them questions that matter - questions that make you seem them in a different light that media has portrayed them in (this can be both a good or a bad thing).

AND, I love when she announces her new favorite gadgets! (Currently the Kindle - where you can purchase/store books electronically! AND.. my other fav was a dryer that looked like a wardrobe, where you could HANG the clothing up and turn it on! GENIOUS... but takes up a lot of space).  It's my life dream to go on the Oprah show so I can either get whatever free gadget she is giving away or say I met Oprah!!!

I can't rave enough about the topics she covers - everything from animal cruelty, the Obama election to real stories about real families that you think would never happen! Everything she discusses on this show is just so real and makes you open your mind to everything else that is going on around the world.  Somehow she also gets the perfect guests to support/argue the topics she covers.. she's just amazing.

Also - Lisa Ling who works with Oprah is one of my favs.. she does a lot of the "field work" for issues going on around the world - visiting farms to see how "free range" vs "non free range" animals are treated, bride burning in India and child trafficking in Ghana - to name a few.

I think everyone could take away a lot from watching Oprah - either religiously or even just for one episode.

Oprah - first female president anyone?! Maybe not... but she's damn good at what she does now!

Ahhh, I agree. She's such an amazing woman, and a great role model for all women. And to think of all the adversity she overcame to get where she is today....which is, like, $50 million deep!

This one's a classic. Even if she goes to cable, we will miss the old Oprah show.

I've been down on Oprah for a few years now... she jumped the shark and just got too full of herself, imo. BUT... the first week of her final season has been awesome and she has me hooked again!! I heart Oprah again! : )

The Oprah Winfrey Show is older than me, so I thought it'd be around FOREVER. September 9, 2011 will truly be the end of an era.

About this tv show

The Oprah Winfrey Show began in 1983 when Oprah took over for a low rating talk show, AM Chicago.  Within six months, the talk show went from one the lowest ranks to number one, surpassing Donahue ratings.  In 1986 the show was then renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show and extended to one hour long.

From the start, many people doubted the success of Oprah's talkshow as she was a Black woman working against mostly white male talk show hosts.  In the 22 years her talk show has aired, she has accomplished a lot - including hosting an interview with Michael Jackson which clocked in the fourth most watched TV event and the most watched TV interview ever with over one hundred million voters.

The Oprah Winfrey show covers a various number of topics from ordinary people who have done extraordinary things to issues in the environment which affect us all.
