"Heroes are not born. They are made. Two epic battles are fought between idols and judges."
After a little chitchat, Clash of the Titans was mentioned again as they showed the London premiere, which the contestants could not attend. This ushered in even more chitchat between Ryan and the others on the sofa. Lee explained that his performance was above all the others he's given in the past. He's relaxing and having fun now, feeding off the energy of the audience. Casey's response was a little lame in comparison: "Just give more I guess..." Aaron was next, and Ryan referenced how he had been compared to a cupcake next to Lee's main course. Then, Ryan and Simon did their usual nightly dance when Simon tried to get Ryan to quit all the chit-chat: "This is not the Oprah Winfrey Show. It's called American Idol." Ryan retaliated by being critical of Simon for making so much money without giving good advice for the contestants. Kara had to chime in that Simon is in love with himself. Randy was the last to comment about a parent or family love between them all but more twisted. Strange comments, judges. Siobhan was next, and she had to critique the "Clash of the Idols" video clip because it showed that she was "defeated." She reiterated that the judge's feedback was hard to take, but that she was human, which was a confusing response. Finally, Katie was talked to and everyone got into a fight over whether she should sing country or R&B. Who cares anymore? You're not going to win this show! If she does, I will stop watching. Seriously. She's cute enough, but she is not a powerhouse singer.
Finally, Ryan took a break from the couch discussions to announce that next week's theme would be the Lennon/McCartney Songbook. Then, Usher performed. It was ok; it had a Michael Jackson vibe to it, but I've never been a fan of Usher. Many parts reminded me of Lady Gaga too. There were a couple of interesting camera angles all at once, two small views on top and a larger, long one at the bottom. Overall, he had some pretty suave moves and a good singing voice.
By the time Ryan was done with all the couch interviews, a bottom three had been designated. Ryan sent one of the contestants back to safety before the final performance, which was especially exciting because of the warning that scrolled across the bottom of the screen about strobe lighting being used. The final guest is a singer, actor, producer, and entrepreneur. Diddy-Dirty Money (what kind of a name is that?) sang his brand new song "Hello, Good Morning" on the American Idol stage! This was my least favorite performance, but it was very creative, especially with all the lights and backup girls. Good thing they had that strobe light warning too! I felt myself getting dizzy watching it. It happened for a good number of seconds, and the lights were really intense! To be honest, it was my favorite part of this episode. I do admit that the dancers and Money had neat outfits done in a black and white color scheme. Also, the refrain "hello, good morning" is actually quite catchy. It was an interesting experience, but I won't be buying this guy's CD anytime soon.
