Pros: Fun mostly easy mini games for preschoolers that are not too addicting
Cons: Lacks some game depth that can make it boring fast, a few hard games
The Bottom Line: Overall worthwhile game for young kids in that it is not addicting, but it is still a good distraction for short periods of time every now and then.
This is an interesting game based on the animated show, Arthur, for preschoolers. The mini games are overall simple and easy for them to play and include familiar characters from the show. The graphics are not all that great, but being a Game Boy Color game they are pretty decent. The sound is okay. It does not have much background music, especially within the mini games, but it does have some well placed sound effects to go with your actions in the mini games.
The mini games are overall easy to play, although it is sometimes confusing for young kids in that it does not have in game instructions on how to play the different mini games and instead you have to figure out the controls on your own, however they are mostly very easy to discover. You play the mini games in order to fill the stars on a Wonder World Free Pass. You need 16 stars to fill up your pass.
Basketball: The main control in this mini game is to hold A and release when Arthur raises arms to desired angle. You can move him farther and closer from basket using left and right arrow keys. It can be frustrating at first, but once you figure out a distance from basket and arm angle combination that works it becomes easy. You get on star on your Wonder World Free Pass when you make 10 baskets.
Pancakes: In this mini game you flip pancakes on the grill and then take them off. You maneuver the spatula around using the arrow keys. When above the pancake you press A to flip or remove from grill. You want them looking kind of brown and burnt looking in my opinion when it is flipped or it is put in the trash. You get on star on your pass when you have done 10 pancakes well.
Jelly Bean: In this mini game you sort the jelly beans into the tube of the same color. As the jelly beans fall down you move the tubes on the bottom with the left and right arrows to line up the right colored tube. If the jelly bean goes in the wrong colored tube your score goes down one. Once you reach 10 points you get a star on your pass.
Library: In this mini game you help the Brain sort books and put them on the shelf with books of the same color. To pick up the book from Brain you press down when near him. To put the book on the right shelves you move left and right and hold up to reach to a high shelf and down to reach a low shelf. You then press A to put on the shelf. Once you put 10 books on the right shelves you get a star on your pass.
Strawberry Picking: In this game you use the arrow buttons to move around the strawberry patch and press A when facing a strawberry to pick it. Once you have 10 strawberries you get a star on your pass.
Skateboarding: In this mini game you navigate Arthur on the street to collect garbage using the arrow buttons. As you skateboard you holding A to make Arthur crouch as he nears a piece of trash. Once you collect 10 pieces of trash you get a star on your pass. This game can sometimes be frustrating because you have to line him up just the right length from the trash in order for him to pick it up.
Air Hockey: In this game you control Arthurâs arm with the arrows. You press A to hit the puck with power. This game I have always found kind of hard to beat Buster at. In fact I have never completed it except by quitting. I assume you get a star when you get ten goals.
Biking: This is a simple game in which you press A to throw newspapers and deliver them on the front porches. Once you deliver 10 properly you get a star.
Racing: This is a very simple and quick racing game. You just control the path of the car by using the arrow keys. You just have to win the race to get a star.
Treasure: In this game you swim around and collect treasure, which are really just different man made objects that just do not belong in the ocean. You use the arrow keys to navigate Arthur to be near an object and press A to have him grab it. This is one of the hardest mini games to master, as it can get frustrating to get him in the right position to pick up the objects.
In the Park you can do activities such as Bumper Cars (seems to have no point to it besides just normal driving around bumping cars and no end except to force exit pressing select), Hit the Bell (you press A and release at right angle to get Arthur use the mallet to make it go up and hit the bell), Water Gun Racing (you try to win by holding A to shoot water and aim it at center of the target in top right hand corner of screen), Skee Ball (you hold and release A to make Arthur throw the ball and use the arrow keys to line him up), and Dunk Booth (you use A to throw balls at the target to try and dunk what looks like a clown). Basically there is not much at Wonder World and I think the game is more fun in the games you play to get your pass to Wonder World. You can easily exit the park and go back and play those games again. Overall though the game does kind of lack depth, however it works good for young kids as it keeps them entertained for a while without getting them hooked on the video game and not wanting to put it down to do other things like play outside.

Arthur's Absolutely Fun Day! is based on characters from the PBS program. It features over a dozen minigames, including shooting a basketball, flipping pancakes, sorting books, and playing air hockey. By playing the minigames, kids obtain tickets to the amusement park. Once inside the amusement park, all of the minigames are available for play. Kids can save their game via a password.
