Right from the beginning you'll notice that ‘Bad Company' is nothing more than a group of soldiers who play ‘cannon fodder' in a war between the United States and Russia.
In this first person shooter, your goal is to take out enemy soldiers on strategic places so the American army can safely move to a designated spot. Even though this is a video-game, so your chances of survival are three, maybe four, times as high as real life combat, you're being helped out by three other soldiers.
All with their own story.

Haggard : "Oh look, new guy's dead."
Sweetwater : "Already? I was just about to learn his name."
Haggard : "I think it was probably Joe. Usually is."
Sarge : "His name is Preston. Preston Marlowe. And he's not dead. Right, soldier?"

All four soldiers have their own reason why they are a member of bad company. Right at the start your other team mates will inform you about theirs.
Let's take Haggard, the bazooka-carrying, simple minded, but good hearted soldier, who likes to blow up stuff. When he blew up an officer's weapons latrine he was immediately placed in bad company.
Sweetwater ‘accidentally' (or so he says) uploaded a virus on a military secured network.
Both Sweetwater and Haggard are making hilarious remarks from time to time and are the reason for certain situations which will most certainly make you chuckle.

Your third and last team-mate is Sergeant Redford. He was the only one who didn't do anything that was either just plain stupid or something that damaged American army property (or both of course). He agreed with a position in bad company so he would be ‘free to go home' in a reasonable amount of time.
And then there is your own character, Preston Marlowe, who, after sarge Redford, seems to be the most down to earth soldier in the group. By making a little mistake (parking a helicopter he took for a joy-ride on a general's limousine) he was doomed to join bad company.
Let the fun begin.

Sweetwater : "Sarge, Haggard's running away again!"
Redford : "Hold on, something ain't right."
Sweetwater : "I know, look at him, he runs like a girl."
Redford : "No, not that. I'm talking about something else."

Battlefield : Bad Company has a wide variety of weapons, from assault rifles to shotguns. And as a little bonus, a lot of awesome gadgets that you just ‘need' to have.
Besides the ‘life 2' which can be used to heal yourself instantly (it will most likely come in quite handy) and the knife (which you can use by pressing ‘y'), you can only carry one type of gadget and one weapon (No that is not right, you can carry two weapons, however, when you pick up a sniper rifle you get a small gun. Some weapons have a different bonus : grenades and with other weapons you can ‘switch' to grenade launcher mode. Which enables you to, for example, shoot holes in walls).

There are a lot of great weapons to collect, but you can't keep hold of one weapon from the beginning to the end of the game. Of course, this is not such a big problem, but a sniper rifle loving person like me will have a hard time switching it for an assault rifle.
As for gadgets, you should think of things like explosives and GPR-transmitters (however, there are a few more great gadgets). And you've got to admit, those grenades with a smiley-face badge attached to the safety pin (like the one shown on the cover) are just plain cool to have.

Also, the game enables you to use many ways of transportation. Tanks, golf carts, small boats, helicopters and many others. When you are in combat, you can also switch from position and use one of the guns (think of machine guns) that are aboard of the vehicle, boat of helicopter, to shoot your enemy's.

Preston : "Honor. Faith. Land. Oil. Wars are fought for any number of reasons. But... on the battlefield, every soldier has to find his own. As things turn out, me and my buddies found a pretty interesting one."

Just before you can get the hang of things, something makes you and your team-mates head in another direction. The discovery of a gold bar will turn this story around, in search for the promised treasure, the gold bars that were used to pay the Legionnaire's army.

So are there, besides the sweet guns, amusing conversations and nice ways of transportation which will get you from point A to point B, any downsides to this game?
Yes, as a matter of fact, there are.
The thing that bothers me the most is the fact that the single player is simply too short. After completing the easy, normal and hard version there is nothing else for completing your (offline) achievements collection or deciding to pay for xbox-live so you can play the game online. (And I'd have to admit, I completed the single player game – difficulty on normal – in less than eight hours.)
The graphic quality on the xbox 360 is lower than the graphic quality of the Playstation 3. However, don't throw out your xbox 360 right away, the graphics still look good. If you don't happen to own both an xbox 360 and a Playstation 3, you shouldn't even be bothered about it.

And of course the fact that only half (?) of the achievements that are out there to earn have to be earned online. But no stress, even when you don't have xbox live, you're still left with a lot of awesome (and most of all very creative) achievements. Like for example ‘Home wrecker' – destroy 200 walls and ‘Manic lumberjack' – knock down a small forest. I've got to say, taking a short look at the list of achievements for this game really made me laugh.
