CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 is basically an extension of CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2. Most of the gameplay is virtually the same and there aren't any major improvements or changes in graphics and sound. There are those who will be disappointed that the game isn't more "realistic". Well, this is a video game. If it was completely realistic after a couple of bullet wounds you'd be dead, there'd be no chance to heal, etc.
Most people will be playing this game for all the multi-player set-ups. There are more maps than in CoD:MW2, so that's a plus. However, there's really not place to hide. You can find a good place to campout and wait until trouble passes or try to set-up an ambush, but there isn't any because there's always a backdoor where the enemy can sneak in from behind. So, you are forced to move around all the time. Also, there aren't any major new weapons.
Personally, I don't play many video games for the multi-player or online experiences. I usually play video games for the story. Campaign-wise, CoD: MW3 begins immediately after CoD:MW2. Price and Nikolai rush the critically injured Soap to a safehouse in Afghanistan. WWIII continues to rage but with the tide of the war turning against them, the Russian President desires peace. While inflight to a peace summit, the Russian President's plane is overtaken by terrorists working for Makarov. They force the plane to crash and take the President hostage. However, his bodyguards are able to keep his daughter safe and out of Makarov's hands. But with Makarov using all his resources to find her, her safety can only be guaranteed for so long. A special force of U.S. troops is sent into Sierra Leone to track down a shipment of cargo that Makarov is intending to send somewhere in Europe. The team is unable to intercept the package and in a dramatic fashion the package is later revealed to be a biochemical weapon that is released in several major cities in Europe. With the Russian President missing, Makarov is in control and the Russian army invades Western Europe. Makarov is determined to get the nuclear launch codes and if he is able to capture the Russian President's daughter it is only a matter of time before he has them and destroys much of the world. Only Soap, Price, Nikolai, and Yuri and their team can stop him.
There are several more Special Ops missions that can be completed as an individual or as a multi-person team. There's also a Survival Mode that's slightly better than its predecessors. I just wish that the Survival levels would actually have a point where they end. Also, it would have been nice to see some sort of zombie level in CoD: MW3.
I enjoyed the gameplay of the campaign, but felt the storyline was a little too short. It should have been extended somewhat. I enjoyed having more Special Ops missions to play and really liked the Survival Mode.
Overall, CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 is a slightly improved extension of CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2. After playing the CoD: MW2 for the past two years, multi-player and online players will probably enjoy having different settings they can play in. Also, it's nice to see the storyline that began in CALL OF DUTY 4 finally come to a conclusion.
