Alien meets Silent Hill meets Doom

Just when you think Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece Alien could never be surpassed, Electronic Arts enters the stage with a video game that takes the deep space survival to the next level. Do not attempt to take a glimpse of this game if you are faint at heart or cannot risk wasting your valuable hours glued to your wireless Sixaxis, cursing under your breath as wave after wave of abominations try tying you down.

Dead Space develops around the story of Isaac Clarke, a system engineer who tags along the crew of USG Kellion to look for his beloved Nicole aboard the USG Ishimura. Melting the ladies' hearts with his dedication towards finding her girlfriend regardless of all kinds of nightmarish creatures now populating the once mining ship, Isaac keeps looking for love in all the wrong places. Making his way through various zero gravity and vacuum environments where breathing gets a wee bit challenging, Isaac tries to locate Nicole all the while trying to keep his remaining colleagues who seem to love making him do the dirty work as they sit securely locked in different parts of the ship.

Certainly, you have seen all kinds of creatures to the point that the concept "creature" is no longer scary but Dead Space's dark, suffocating atmosphere sucks you in after a point and become scarier than the monsters themselves. Blinking lights in a long corridor, abandoned rooms whose walls are clad in a wiggling, alien organism, noises from afar that may or may not mean trouble is ahead join forces with necromoprhs (ie. the alien abomnations aboard) that jump out of nowhere.

There's also a religious cult called The Church of Unitology involved (waving at Silent Hill) in this catastrophe that makes everything more... err... sensible? Suffice to say that these guys have a heedless desire for rebirth. Go figure!

Made up of 12 challenging chapters, a skillfully woven storyline and various space mining playthings used as weapons, Dead Space can keep your adrenaline levels high for days.

Sequel guaranteed!

I first read a little about Dead Space when I was in college on the day Halo 3 came out and a friend handed me a video game magazine and I took a strong notice to the (then) up-and-coming Dead Space. I really liked what I saw in that article since it was supposed to be influenced from one of my favorite movies, Event Horizon (Isaac's helmet even looks like the front of the EH ship). A year passes and I received Dead Space as a gift on my 21st birthday last year and I won't be parting with …

Dead Space takes the genre of survival horror to new heights. It's atmosphere help it become a terrifying game that will keep you fully immersed, and maybe keep you up at night.       In Dead Space, you play as Issac Clarke, an engineer. Along with two friends from Concordance Extraction Corporation, you receive a distress call from another ship and decide to investigate. Upon arriving, however, things have already gone awry. Aboard the ship is a deadly alien race that has apparently …

The alien hordes are incredibly resilient. You'll have to find creative ways to neutralize the attacking enemies by shearing off limbs with powerful weapons. And when the ammo runs out you'll be thankful that you can use your telekinetic powers to pick up objects (even the aliens' own severed arms and legs) and hurl them at your advancing enemies.
