Greatest Game Of 08 Has Its Flaws

  • Jun 14, 2008

On the viewing of the first trailer for GTA IV the world took a deep breath and said "Holy Crap" and that feeling carried on right up until the actual games release date when people queued for hours in anticipation of the game, but after all that hype the real question to be asked of people is, "Was it worth it?" Both yes and no for truly different reasons and with my review I plan on giving both the pros and cons to this game but I'm sad to say that they're primarily cons, but let's first focus on the biggest pro of them all.

Pro: The Attention to Detail: The Liberty City map isn't massive as we were warned in pre-release interviews of the developers, though we had the map size reduction we were given an immensely detailed surrounding. The roads, the walls, even the trees have some interesting detail to offer when simply walking around the city. You come to notice things that you start to think to yourself, was there really a point in putting that in the game when it's sacrificing the activity content of the game.

Con: The Lack of Size: As mentioned before we were given pre-warning that the map would be considerably smaller than that of San Andreas. The truly bad thing about this is that the most enjoyable thing about San Andreas was the truly divers environments contained in the massive San Andreas, yet given the smaller Liberty City we are limited to one very cliché setting of a bustling city lifestyle.

Pro: Duck & Cover/Police Search: This has to be the biggest improvement in the game altogether as it gives us a much more realistic element to the whole experience of GTA. If committing a crime there either have to be witnesses or a cop nearby, if there are none of the pre-mentioned then simply the cops wont be after you but if you have a wanted level and are driving around in hope of escaping the wanted circle but are unable to because your car is familiar to them, you have the ability to switch cars and if done properly you can drive carefully past a Police car without them being aware that it's you in the car that they're after. This makes the experience ultra realistic and along with the ability to duck & cover so if you enter into a gun fight with the police you can take cover behind a car door and keep on shooting.

Con: Lack of Stuff To Do: This is the biggest flaw in the game and really ruins the replay value of the whole game. In San Andreas there were literally hundreds of activities that you could perform at your leisure if you were bored with performing mission after mission. You could go sky diving, swimming under water, dancing, gambling etc. etc. the list goes on and on but with GTA IV we are given an immensely detailed environment but at the sacrifice of the activities and I feel this is the biggest letdown.

There are many other cons and many other pros for which I could go on about for hours but I'm going to stop at this as it's something a GTA fan should experience and decide for themselves. This should be a part of your collection as it's simply something that could be considered a part of gaming history, after all it's one of the very few game franchises that has seen its tenure cross the 3 generations of the Sony Playstation and if current sales figures indicate anything, I think we can guarantee that this will be a series to continue across many more game generations.

Grand Theft Auto IV Review
GTA4 ends the same way it plays, with a choice. Unfortunately, just like in Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, no good deed goes unpunished. With alternate endings depending on your final choice the game displays a depth and insight not often seen in a video game. The game is brilliantly designed and a success on so many levels. I commend Rockstar for breaking away from the molds of Vice City and San Andreas and doing a game that is unique in the franchise. One thing people will not say is that this is either …

Live the American dream of fast cars, busty women, fast food and AK-47s
I'm new to the Grand Theft Auto games having always heard of the violent and questionable content.  Grabbing this one I can see what all the hype was about, it's a very absorbing game, very profane, violent and dark at times taking your character around town doing shady things and keeping in touch with your contacts along with humor and a varied array of missions.      Grand Theft Auto is the story of Niko Bellic, a former army soldier and an immigrant from the Eastern …

Plenty to do around town in this urban gang game. Some missions will drive you up the wall but it's still great.

Sandbox style game with criminal goings on in town. You have a lot of choices and a lot of gameplay.

Before I start ranting, I just want to say that GTA4, as a game of its own, is actually quite good, but as a GTA game, it has shortcomings. So Let's kick this review off right.     Graphics: GTA4 has rather well defined graphics. It is definitely much better from it's predecessors. Among many of the improvements graphically; people in the car actually move as they speak, blood stains actually appear on your car if you hit people, hitting newspaper stands actually cause newspapers …

This game is great. It's like the entire city is really alive. There is so many missions and mini games to play that it will keep you interested for a really long time. Besides the normal missions you can also compete do things like play pool, darts, bowling you can meet girls and take them on dates, get drunk at a bar, go to shows, earn money doing odd jobs like stealing and delivering cars, operating as a delivery driver etc... There are a lot of different weapons to use and a huge selection of …

My review isn't about the game, but about what you get with the special edition:    Duffel Bag: Medium-Sized, black bag with a white Rockstar logo outside and a yellow-pattern lining on the inside...surprisingly very eye-catching design. This will make a great gym bag.    License Plate: Not as hard as the real license plate, but still sturdy enough to put on your wall or hit somebody with it.    Safe Deposit Box(with 2 keys): I'm very impressed …

About this video game

What does the American Dream mean today?

For Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and are dragged into a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don’t.

Beginning with the 1997 release of the originalGrand Theft Auto, theGTAseries has been one of the most prolific, controversial and down right entertaining franchises in video games history. This pedigree of success guarantees that the highly anticipated eleventh game in the series,Grand Theft Auto IV, will garner at least as much attention if not more.
