Bang! Bang! Your Dead.

Throwing any sense of historical accuracy out the window (other than real names), GUNFIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF JESSE JAMES is a quick-paced shoot-em-up video game. The game was originally an arcade game and therefore isn't quite as entertaining as a personal video game. Nevertheless, the game is still fun if you enjoy old fashioned shooting games.

The plot of the game revolves around Jesse's girl, Zee, being kidnapped. He chases the kidnappers out of town, to a mine, and on a moving train. The last level takes place in town and the game concludes with a showdown between the evil Jack Carson and Jesse James.

The game has two major flaws. First, in order to beat the game, you have to beat every level without using up all of your continues or starting over. You cannot save a game, quit it at level three and restart it at that point. That is rather frustrating. The other major flaw is that the clock ticks away even when Jesse isn't involved in a gunfight (except during the cut scenes). Other than that, the game is a lot of fun to play.

About this video game

If you've ever had dreams of becoming an old-west gunslinger like the legendary Jesse James, this is your chance. Accompanied by your old friend, Cole Younger, you'll fight off enemies and deterrents of all sorts in order to track down and rescue your kidnapped girlfriend, Zee. Using PlayStation's Guncon attachment (you can also play a version of the game that doesn't employ the light gun technology), you'll blast Mexican banditos, outlaws, and other enemies, including the nefarious Gatling Gunner. In addition to all of the sharp shooting, you'll have to manage your supply of bullets and monitor your health. The game's five main levels include the Saloon, the Hanging, the Train, the Mine, and the Town, and there are four additional mini-games that you'll have to tackle after completing the primary stages. Boasting stellar graphics and amazing details, the story is a mixture of time-tested Jesse James lore and brand-new tales.
