Are you ready for "The Show"? Play Baseball Like Never Before in "MLB 09"

I was a huge fan of last years installment of the MLB: The Show series, but this years made significant improvements.  MLB 09 is a baseball simulator that this year, features a whole lot more than any of its predecessors.   For the franchise/season mode, the way in which the offseason is played has been very nicely revamped.  You really have to pay attention to who has become a free agent and who on your team may not want to re-sign their contract.  Though the graphics in the series have always been superb, this years have made a huge improvement with amazing facial models and amazingly detailed ballparks.  Playing through a whole season in this game makes you actually feel like your in the bigs!

What I loved most about playing through a whole MLB season in this game was the fact that unlike last year, players speak up and let you know who they think isn't playing well.  Take Carlos Ruiz for example, the Phillies catcher.  In my season, he was just having a bad year and and my other players didn't want him in the game.  I eventually picked up "Pudge" Rodriguez to replace him and had a better team for it.  It just felt like instead of playing the same game everyday, I had to make adjustments throughout the course of the season, making the game fun and new every time I played.

The graphics in MLB 09: The Show are also superb.  My fiance would come home many a time and ask me who the Phils were playing until she realized I was playing a video game.  From the pitcher angle, the game actually looks incredibly realistic and probably would fool me if I didn't play it everyday.  Along with the graphics are the great animation when your coming to the plate, diving for a catch, hitting a homerun or even arguing with the umps.  All of these things make the experience that much more realistic.  Not to mention the best announce team in all of the gaming world featuring Matt Vasgersian.

All in all, if you are an avid baseball fan with a Playstation 3, you need to own this game...period.  It's the closest you'll ever get to playing in the big leagues.  With amazing grpahics, realistic gameplay and 162 games, this game is good for hours of sports entertainment.  After you're done with your first season, you'll need a month or so to cool down from such a competitive season!  MLB 09 is the Show! 5/5!
