Spiderman 3 was one of the many top grossing movies that came out in 2007; to coincide with the film a video game was also released. Spiderman 3 the Video game was developed by Treyarch (PS3 and 360), Vicarious Visions (Wii, DS, Gameboy, PS2, PSP), and Beenox (PC). It was released May 4th 2007, here's my review.
Spiderman 3 the game is loosely based on the movie. Basically the whole game is just a bunch of objectives to complete, although it features cut scenes based off of scenes in the movie. The game also has characters in it that weren't in the movie like The Lizard, and Vulture. The black suit is also playable in the game; after a certain mission Spiderman gets an anger meter and it fills for every bad guy you beat up, obviously when it fills you get the black suit. The black suit only lasts for a short amount of time, but in that time Spiderman gets faster stronger, and his fighting style is more brutal. The controls in the game were very well thought out. The directional buttons are your basic run left, run right, jump and crouch, the combat controls are all done it the touch screen. A basic punch is done by sliding the stylus left or right, shooting webs can be done by tapping the touch screen. There are lots more complex maneuvers for dishing out punishment to bad guys like web pull (web a bad guy and pull him into your fists of justice) rodeo (as the name implies web an enemy and swing him/her around in the air) hammer (web your enemy and swing him/her into the pavement(ouch that's harsh Spiderman), and lots lots more (there's actually a lot cant remember them all).
There is a multiplayer mode in the game also but there's not much I can say about it because like most of my games no one has them or has heard of them. The game also has a few side quests, like make the streets crime free in a certain amount of time, or collect spidey tokens etc. Last but not least the game has voice acting, I'm not sure if it's the real actors from the film but they sound convincing to me. While fighting or after you defeat an enemy Spiderman will have some witty comment to say, or crappy spider jokes. There also VO in the cut scenes.
The graphics in the game were ok, there not great but there ok. (I preferred the graphics from Spiderman 2 on the DS which I also have)The game play was really great I thought fighting with the touch screen was really intuitive; surprisingly the touch screen is very responsive, there's barely any lag from you put the down the stylus on the touch screen to Spiderman responding to the controls It doesn't seem like much but when your surrounded by like fifteen bad guys (which you will) its really great. Overall Spiderman 3 was an awesome game on the DS. The characters were great, the controls were also great, and the side quests added to the replay value of the game. Unfortunately I preferred Spiderman 2 on the DS over Spiderman 3, mainly for the graphics and Spiderman 2 was a little more challenging. The combat controls are solid but a little hard to get the hang of (LOL at least your not button mashing) and some of the side quests and side missions are a pain because they just pop up if your trying to get somewhere, and some of them NEED to be beaten before you can advance in a level (some of them give spidey new abilities)
