Super Mario RPG was Mario's last SNES game, and his very first RPG adventure. In this game, Mario, along with his new friends Mallow (a marshmallow-looking character who thinks he's a frog) and Geno (a living doll), longtime girlfriend Princess Peach, and even his main adversary Bowser, race to defeat Smithy and his mechanical minions while collecting the seven stars that have the power to grant wishes. When I first got this game in 2002 after playing and enjoying Paper Mario, I was instantly hooked! This game is chock full of awesome features. You get turn-based battles in which you can actually use well-timed button presses to increase damage to foes, which gives the battles a more interactive feel. There are minigames and secrets galore, ranging from a barrel ride down the river to racing with Yoshi and friends. You also get tricky puzzles, cleverly humorous dialogue, and even cameos from other Nintendo stars if you know where to look! All of these features would become staples for other Mario RPG games, and all of them together make for what has become a terrific spinoff series for Mario.

The computer rendered graphics are excellent (for a 1996 game), the soundtrack consists of familiar and new songs that will remain stuck in your head, and the gameplay is just so addictive, if not terribly difficult. And hey, for only 8 dollars it's practically a steal. If you liked any of the Paper Mario/Mario and Luigi games, you'll love Super Mario RPG. I enjoyed many hours of it, and I'm sure that many others will likewise. Highly recommended for all Mario and RPG fans!
Mario was usually accustomed to going on platforming adventures, chasing Princess Toadstool and saving her from the clutches of the evil Koopa King: Bowser. Super Mario RPG launched in 1996 taking the gaming world by storm, and was one of the games that gave the Super Nintendo a fond farewell. … more
